2022 - 2023 Schedule/Season
I have not seen or heard anything mentioned about the Pilots non-league schedule yet except that they are heading to St. Petersburg, Florida for Thanksgiving.
I recall hearing Scott Leykam saying he wanted to have the team far away during the upcoming PK85 in Portland (with some men's and women's games being played at UP), and Florida is about as far away as you can get.
I am not sure the format, but there will be five teams participating in the 2022 St. Pete Showcase November 24-26. In addition to UP, the others in the field are Houston, Northeastern, Florida, and Green Bay.

I cannot believe the timing of my move now. Sad to miss this. If you have not seen Eckerd College's (I believe they are hosting) campus, it's right on the water.

We learned from reading Scott's interview with the Portland Tribune, that the Pilots will not only play Stanford in the Chiles Center, which we already knew about, but that WSU will also be coming to town.

Looking forward to our first trip to the USA and of course first UP games to watch Emma and the team!
We fly into California for the San Diego games on 18th and 20th Nov. We will holiday with Emma's sisters while they play in Florida before meeting up in OR for the Evergreen, Oregon and Washington State games

That sounds like an excellent itinerary. Coming from the west coast of Australia in November you will likely notice a big temperature difference on the west coast of the USA, especially in Oregon, but you'd still better have your SPF-50 lotion ready for Florida.Adam wrote:Looking forward to our first trip to the USA and of course first UP games to watch Emma and the team!
You couldn't stay just 3 more days to attend the PSU afternoon game?

Unfortunately not. A combination of amount of holidays from work and budget. Seems to be the last day to fly back before flights double in price close to Christmas. Also why we arent going to the Florida games as flight costs x 4 of us on Thanksgiving was crazy too :/

Portland Women's Basketball Will Face Stanford On ESPN2
SAN MATEO, Calif. - Portland women's basketball is not shying away from the competition in 2022-23. Pilots fans all over the country will have the opportunity to see Portland in action when the Pilots square off against perennial national power Stanford on Sunday, Nov. 13, at 2 p.m. on ESPN2.
Portland battled Stanford on the road last season when the Cardinal were ranked No. 7 in the country. Stanford won, 77-55.
Portland boasts all of its key returners back this season, including Alex Fowler, Haylee Andrews and Lucy Cochrane. The three Pilots all picked up WCC All-Conference honors last season. Portland will enter this season carrying momentum after handing 2022 WCC regular season champion BYU its only loss during conference play.
The Pilots finished the 2021-22 campaign with a record of 20-11 for their second 20-plus win season under head coach Michael Meek, and their fifth as a Division I program. They finished fourth in the WCC and earned their third-straight postseason berth with a bid into the WNIT. Portland is no stranger to success after winning the 2020 University Credit Union WCC Basketball Tournament, earning an automatic qualifier into the NCAA Tournament. The Pilots never got the chance to dance as the tournament was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Re: 2022 - 2023 Schedule/Season
Adam, for the scrimmage last Saturday, I arrived shortly before game time, observing the last of warmups. Among other activities I saw your daughter do a slow walking loop around the mid portion of the three point arc, left to right--she hit three of four--as you would know she can shoot a little. During the game I think she may have hit a three, though at this point my memory is vague; I never saw a box score. I do recall that her first hoop occured when a defender came at her in a half court set, she side stepped the defender, drove the lane and shot the ball from just outside the small charge arc in the lane, hitting the rim, then board, and falling in, a nice shooter's bounce. Emma was noticably adept defensively--again, I am trying to recall, but she either intercepted a cross court pass or nearly did so, otherwise showed determination, grit and remained in front of her offensive counter part. Without a doubt she held her own offensively and defensively. She is up against tough competitioon though.
This is far short of being comperhensive, but those are a few recollections. Streaming will start for games, as you know.
I share the impression of the scrimmage made earlier about others who fared well.
Good luck.

Cant express enpigh how nice that is as a dad, for you to take the time to reply and provide that insight. Thanks! She definitely has to earn any court time amongst a bunch of talented girls.
It ended up a nce surprise that a parent was there and shared with all parents some nice game video. As you alluded to, Emma seemed in amongst it nicely, playing 7 or so minutes in each of the 2 x periods and scoring 7 points including a nice 'And 1'. Just so happy for her after her knee reconstruction to be out there competing again

Thats my girl! Awesome pic Love her curls, and that pic shows the muscle definition and suggests the leanness is almost back to her pre-injury days. Thanks for sharing.
Not sure if I shared before, but choosing #11 has special meaning for her, in memory of her late grandfather, who wore that number and played basketball for the England national team.

I talked to Florence Dallow, the shooting sensation of the Warner Pacific game, after tonight's game...and she did not play because she is redshirting and will work with the performance staff to put on some muscle while increasing her strength and stamina.
Keeley Frawley tells me she is wearing jersey #2 this season instead of the #4 she has worn the last three seasons to honor her late father, Danny Frawley.
Danny wore #2 throughout his career as a highly regarded Australian rules footballer and was later a coach, commentator, and media personality.
Keeley with her dad, Danny, and mother, Anita.

Stanford Sunday November 13 at 2pm
Sunday's 2pm game against #2 Stanford is nationally televised on ESPN2.
The Pilot Club will open at 1pm.
Stanford is coming off a 98-44 victory over Pacific on Friday.
"This particular team is a deep team, and we can really tire people out by playing with a lot of pace," said Head Coach Tara VanDerveer, whose team has won its first three games by an average of 52 points. "We do have some scorers and good shooters and we just need people to take good shots and keep moving the ball."
The Cardinal shot 63.3% from the field, 47.4% from 3-point range and missed only one of their eight free throws in their game in Stockton.
"They're so long at every position, and that really affected a lot of our shots," Pacific coach Bradley Davis said. "Their length got to us, and in the second half our fatigue started to show. They wear you down and they've got some great shooters on the outside. I think Hannah Jump is the best shooter in the country. You can't give her any open space because she's not going to miss too many."
Stanford also boasts the #1 recruit for 2022, 6-7 Lauren Betts...and so far, Betts has played off the bench and has averaged better than 1 point per minute.
