Probably a couple of Tim Tams to start with, and then as it gets closer to 5am and breakfast time, definitely some Fairy Bread with a scoop of Vegemite on top...mate.Adam wrote:3am here... what game snacks work for 3am?

The teachers are on strike and kids are admitted FREE!
Pass it on!
Last night Portland State beat Warner Pacific 74-62, but at one point WP went on a 26- 7 run to include 18 straight points at one juncture. So, they can play!
That run happened right after star PSU player Alaya Fitzgerald got injured and the team was visibly shook up.

While the new court looks nice and light, I wonder if thats anything to do with everything else being much darker on camera. Especially baseline view so dark with shadows on faces etc

Re: 2023-2024 Schedule/Season
Not knowing much about cameras or lenses, and not knowing if the cameras used by ESPN have something equivalent to an aperture, it would make sense that the camera is letting in less light so that the court is not too bright for the viewer, which in turn causes the already dark surrounds to seem even darker.Adam wrote:While the new court looks nice and light, I wonder if thats anything to do with everything else being much darker on camera. Re: 2023-2024 Schedule/Season
Great atmosphere in the Chiles Center this morning with what seemed to be about 1,000 school kids (we all got in the game free, and I did not see anyone counting heads) as the Pilots downed the Knights, 86-49.
It's a good thing UP had there 5/28 from behind the arc game against a non-D1 opponent, or the result might have been different.
Everyone available played (Hamilton and Spear were not suited up due to injury or illness), and everyone scored except freshman Rhyan Mogel, but she had five assists and five steals.
The games will only get more difficult from here on out as the Pilots go on the road for the next three games before coming home to face UO on November 30.

Two of UP’s opponents met last night with an unexpected result.
Santa Clara went to the Mathew Knight Arena and thrashed U of O 89-50. It’s the biggest loss of the Kelly Graves era.

That's a wow. Tess Heal is a beast. 9 for 13 from the field on her way to 21 points, 8 assists. They are going to be a tough out.
A mild fear perhaps that our coach may end up in Eugene if Graves has a particularly bad year.

Pilots lost at Cal Baptist Wednesday, 71-66. CBU shot 60% on 3Ps (9-15), while the women struggled to find the range, shooting 5-26 for 19%.

Bobby Gross, former Blazer, and not a particularly good outside shooter, said after an irksome loss, that "you live by the three, you die by the three." An adage which may have more recent application.up7587 wrote:Pilots lost at Cal Baptist Wednesday, 71-66. No stream of an inseason D1 game is a first for me in 3 years, but also no livestats and not even a single 'Its Gameday' post on X, or any socials updates or sidelines clips either is very strange.

As you likely know, it's Thanksgiving weekend over here, and after eating their fill yesterday, everyone is out shopping today.Adam wrote:No stream of an inseason D1 game is a first for me in 3 years, but also no livestats and not even a single 'Its Gameday' post on X, or any socials updates or sidelines clips either is very strange.
I was able to find a UP/NAU stats page on ESPN+, but 75 minutes after the scheduled start of the game, ESPN+ is showing "delayed."

UP up 42-30 at halftime. Had to laugh, they just took a media timeout, though its not televised.

Pilots were up by 1 with 10 seconds left. Sideball front court to them, fouled them on a rebound with 1.2 left. Baseline to them. Defensive breakdown, buzzerbeater layup under basket. Lost 65-66

Unaddressed by your game end description is the apparent offensive fall off in the second half, from 42 first half points to a disappointing 23 in the second half.

Re: 2023-2024 Schedule/Season
It's been a while since the Pilots' women's team lost 3 in a row. You wonder if the lack of a skilled inside/down low player like Alex is the primary reason. The turnovers are not helping, obviously. Still the team may yet prove to be better than the current results suggest.
Interesting to see how the Pilots match up with Oregon given that the Ducks were clobbered
by Santa Clara.

Re: 2023-2024 Schedule/Season
I look forward to hearing from those who attended the game. How is this the same team that lost 3 games in Riverside and Vegas to mid-majors? Blowing out a 4-1 Oregon team 91-60?
Lucy Cochrane has a heck of a stat line: 10 Pts, 9 Reb, 7 Ast, 5 Blk, 0 TOs. Only 26% shooting, but otherwise sterling.

Coach Meek's schemes on both sides of the ball are very complicated...so complicated that it takes about a year for most players to learn the schemes and play them naturally.up7587 wrote:I look forward to hearing from those who attended the game. When the rotation includes 4 freshmen (Flo redshirted last year), it's not always going to be pretty, and that was the case on the recent road trip where the team lost three games but really should have won the two in Las Vegas.
Tonight, against a team of 4- and 5-star recruits, it was easy to see how the Pilots were playing as a TEAM, whereas the Ducks were playing more individually and had absolutely no answer for UP's tenacity and heart. The Pilots wanted it more, and it showed!!
I have not had a chance to look at the stats yet, but UP's TEAM offense was moving the ball all of the time resulting in a ton of assists...

26 assist on 35 field goals is excellent teamwork. And yep for the 5 girls to finish out 5 minutes and still retain the 30+ lead a good sign of depth too. Great game by the girls!

I add Ananiev seems to be the player we.thought, and can shoot the three ball as well as anyone on the team, Maisie included. Nice game both offensively and defensively. Liked the blocks and the running floater.
Dickie had her best game. Her aggressive demeanor is suited to the power forward position.
Flo Dallow is playing well. Fraley had some good moments. As indicated, we are deep.
Could not help but cheer on Emma, more scoring to come, I assume.
Linked below is the UO game summary with quotes from coach Graves. He suggests the Pilots were particularly intense: isn't that generally the case?

Re: 2023-2024 Schedule/Season
Montana State was a heckuva game. Just when all appeared lost, Dyani Ananiev and Emme Shearer played unbelievably, saving the Pilots from a quite likely loss. Ananiev is a talent, quick for her size with quick hands: she affected the game on both ends, nailing threes in the clutch, stealing the ball when the Pilots needed it. Emme was a whirlwind on defense, multiple steals, multiple drives to the hoop on offense. The play of each was vital to Pilot fortunes. Rhyan Mogel ran the point well, steady in the second half and also hit a three. Nice comeback ladies. Great game to watch. Go Pilots.
