Which suggests that the voters have basically zero information about changes from last season and are just repeating last year's results until the matches start.

Yeah I don’t think the coaches beat themselves up pondering teams going into the new season.

Did the Pilots' friendly against OSU actually happen yesterday? The schedule on the Web site still doesn't even list a time, let alone a score.

As reported earlier, 7 of the 9 recruits Coach CV had coming in this season signed pro contracts instead of coming to UP, so it's difficult to guess how some of the holes in the lineup will be filled, but in a "no love lost" friendly in Corvallis yesterday, the Pilots prevailed 3-1, the OSU goal the result of a "controversial" PK.

A choppy, physical game is how I would describe last night's 2-0 win by the Pilots over the Redhawks in an "exhibition."

Certainly not the performance Nick will be looking for when the games start counting next Friday vs. UW at Merlo, but the "friendlies" with OSU and Seattle U. have shown UP does a good job of being as physical as their opponents...if that's what it takes to win.

Oregon State picked by the coaches to win the WCC title this season, the Pilots picked to finish in second place.

Have the Pilots abandoned streaming their games on ESPN+ this year? Huge step backwards! I watched the stream a lot on cold, wet nights when I didn't want to drive 30 minutes and sit in the rain.

I don’t remember they ever streamed games in the exhibition season.. they didn’t used to even publish scores.

Fear not. Sunday’s women’s game is on ESPN+.

Great. But on the schedule on the Web site there are only two women's games (Stonehill and USC) that have video links and one (Denver away) on the men's. That's what led me to believe there was a change happening.

I think that’s a sidearm sports issue. Looking around the league, some teams don’t even have complete schedules listed. The SMC women’s game against UP on Sept 28 isn’t even listed on their schedule yet.

Really good win last night in the opening game of the season...always fun to watch a game under the Friday night lights on student move-in weekend.

The #22 Pilots 2-1 victory over the Big-10 Huskies avenged last year's loss when the Pilots rolled into Seattle at #5 in the nation and lost 3-1.

This was UW's first time opening the season on the road since 2016.

Next up: At Big-10 UCLA next Friday.  #21 UCLA dominated LMU 2-0 at home on Thursday night with both goals coming from Marquette grad-transfer Edrey Caceres.

Beat a Big-10 team 2-1 on the road and you get attention in the United Soccer Coaches poll...

Tough test on Friday against another Big-10 team when the Pilots meet #10 UCLA on the road on Friday evening.

Loose to a B1G team 0-2 on the road and I bet you get attention also.

Next week I have a Thorns game and a UP men game at the same time. I decided to let the teams decide which game to go to by goal differential tonight. I need a suggestion on tiebreaker.

A late addition to the schedule:

Tonight, September 2 at 7pm, the Pilots host Multnomah.

Even if the game might not be of high interest, they are serving chicken teriyaki and rice (and green beans) in the Pilot Club

In a change to the original schedule:

On Thursday September 5, the men now play Cal State Bakersfield at 7pm after WSOC plays Sacramento St. at 4:30pm.

In a change to the Change, the women will play at 12:30.

I think most would agree that to this point it has been a disappointing season by recent Pilots standards, but this weekend will offer a chance for UP to get back on track nationally when the Pilots travel to #3 Denver and #22 Santa Barbara.

Historically, Denver has been tough at home against UP, going 2-0-1, but the Pilots prevailed last season at Merlo.

UP has never won at UCSB (0-1), but they did beat the Gauchos in Portland last season.

Good luck to them. I've been disappointed at the matches I've attended. It seems like they have two fatal flaws this year: (1) Finishing up front (Buba has not been himself) and (2) Height at the back---and all over the pitch really. The latter was decisive against St. Louis, who seemed to have a bout 6 players over 6'2" compared to, maybe, one for the Pilots. Both goals from set pieces where the Pilots had no one to compete in the air with the Billekins.

As an aside, I *really* miss the printed programs! Had one been available, I'd have known the answer to the relative height question. I am, or was, constantly looking up such details during the games, but pulling the electronic program up on my phone and trying to make it big enough to read takes my eyes off the game for thirty seconds. It's just not a satisfactory alternative. Charge 50 cents or a dollar for programs if you need to, but bring them back!!

Are you a member of the Pilot Club where a tasty meal, beverages (including the adult kind), and printed rosters for both teams are available for each game.

If not, just stop by the Pilot Club pavilion on your way to your seat and ask Mickael or Lauren for a roster, I am sure they'd be more than happy to accommodate you.

We do have a vegetarian option at every game! I unfortunately will be at a family wedding for this Saturday's Women's game, but will be here Friday against Sac State. If you are around Saturday, a couple of student workers would be happy to welcome you to Pilot Club and answer any questions--otherwise would be happy to talk next Friday. And yes...we have paper programs

0-0 on the road against #1 or #3 (depending upon which poll) seems a good result for the Pilots, now 2-3-2 on the season.

But man, oh man, it was nerve wracking to see all 21 shots (11 on goal) by the Pioneers because almost all were taken from within the box...good thing GK Miguel-Angel Hernandez was having a good night.

Meanwhile, UP's opponent on Sunday night, #22 UCSB, rolled to a 4-1 victory over Utah Valley on the road on Thursday night.
