Re: 2020-2021 Schedule/Season
My goodness, those Ducks are rangy and big!
I'm sure Haylee was disappointed to not play, but it gave Rose a chance to shake off the rust of close to two years without competition, which in turn got Liana more court time after a year off.
On a team packed with very nice young women, it was wonderful to see of the team's nicest, and only walk-on, senior nursing student Kristina Wooldridge not only get some serious minutes, but she looked very athletic and quick while scoring 6 points. (Kristina scored a total of 8 point during the entirety of last season).
Besides the turnovers, that were for the most part caused by playing too fast at times, I thought the night was a success...especially as all 13 available players got some floor time.
A big thanks to Coach Kelly Graves for bringing his team to Portland...let's hope he'll make it a recurring event!

The PSU women canceled the first four games of their season after a positive COVID-19 test result and the subsequent isolation of the team and staff.DoubleDipper wrote:There are still just four games scheduled, but the Portland State game on December 13 has been dropped and Montana St. has been added on December 17.

Re: 2020-2021 Schedule/Season
In this COVID infected season of changes, the Pilots have added two additional games to their preseason schedule, Northwest U and UW.
Dec 6 Seattle U @ 12 noon (TV on NBC Sports NW)
Dec 11 Northwest U (NAIA) @ 6pm
Dec 13 @ Washington @ 2pm
Dec 17 Montana St. @ 2pm
The Washington game is after the Pac-12 season begins, and UW will have played 3 Pac-12 games by the time UP comes to town.
UW must be strong, they beat BYU 77-48 in Las Vegas.
The Pilots regular season is still set to begin in Malibu and LA on December 28th and 30th...we'll see.

Nice win ladies. Thought Mckelle Meek showed well, along with Mulheim and Fowler and Andrews and our back from injury Hawaian whose name I do not want to butcher. We have some depth. Pflug injury status?

I don't believe the Pilots have anyone from Hawaii on the team, but from your description of "back from injury," you are probably referring to Liana Kaitu'u (lee-awn-uh kie-too-oo). Liana was born and raised in Salt Lake City, and even after she had to sit out the season after blowing-out her knee at Air Force in the sixth game last season, her dad would fly to Portland for every home game "just to support her teammates."wrv wrote:Nice win ladies. I didn't think the Pilots communicated or shot well in the first half (possibly due to Seattle U's defense and the return of two starters who missed the first game against UP), but Liana's 3-pointer at the buzzer set the tone for a much better second half.
My favorite player today was Keeley Frawley. She may not have big numbers like some, but her upbeat attitude, sense of humor, and ability to gather the team together when they are struggling speaks to her "team first" approach. When she is on the court, the team simply does better.

Re: 2020-2021 Schedule/Season
The schedules of Seattle, UP, and our next opponent Northwest show how fluid this year is, schedule wise.
Northwest has Seattle on the 10th and UP the 11th . They also have Seattle Jan 6.
UP has Seattle on the 6th and Northwest on the 10th.
And Seattle has UP on the 6th and Northwest on the 10th.
It’ll be interesting to see who plays on the 10th.
<edit> I see the Up game is now the 11th. Northwest is a travelin’ team.

Lots of minutes being spread around. Shearer is making the most of hers.

Re: 2020-2021 Schedule/Season
Wow, not only are the Huskies, well husky, but they are quick too.
The Pilots are fortunate to be within 10 at the half (34-24), but with UW shooting 60% it could have been worse.
Although she has not been a factor yet, good to see Rose back on the court after her injury two games ago.
Alex is being picked on, and it's working. Two points and two fouls.
Twelve of 13 available Pilots have seen action...only eight for the Huskies.

Re: 2020-2021 Schedule/Season
The Dawgs were woofin' and treating the Pilots like chew toys in the second half while scoring at will underneath against the undersized Pilots.
Honestly, I have never seen a team like UW that could simply use their physical size and strength on both ends of the court...sure there was some skill and good coaching too, but they were too big and strong for UP.
Outscored in the fourth quarter 28-13 by the Huskies in their 83-56 win, my only criticism of the Pilots was their tendency to pass up seemingly open shots while lookin to go inside with the ball.
It was a good learning experience.

Re: 2020-2021 Schedule/Season
In their last scheduled preseason game, the Pilots had no answer for the Montana St. Bobcat's quickness and aggressive play in their 80-67 loss today.
There was too much reliance on Fowler and Andrews, and someone else had better step-up if the Pilots are going to be competitive going into WCC play.
Next scheduled game is against PU in Malibu on December 28th.
