I'm of the opinion the WCC schedule will change. Under the current pandemic conditions and the constant testing, it makes no sense to travel as much as the current schedule calls for.

It will be even longer if the super-spreaders also reject taking the vaccine when it finally becomes their turn.

As troubling is the possibility that the superspreaders won’t get the vacine or mask up. ( but my rights, dude).
That might be even worse than the current deteriorating state of affairs.

Re: 2020-2021 Schedule/Season
With UO coming to the Chiles Center on December 30th, it's a shame fans will not be allowed to attend, but it's nice to know UO Coach Kelly Graves committed to bringing his team to Portland.
All men's and women's basketball games in the Chiles Center are expected to be broadcast online during the 2020-21 season.
WBB preseason schedule...just four games:
Nov 25 @ Seattle U @ 2pm
Nov 30 Oregon @ 8pm
Dec 6 Seattle U @ 12 noon
Dec 13 @ Portland St. @ 2pm
From Scott Leykam regarding fan attendance at UP games: "UP Athletics will continue to monitor health and safety guidelines to determine if limited capacity options become available, and if those guidelines change, priority will be given to family and guests of participating student-athletes."

Sorry, I couldn't resist this bit if nostalgia. The "Four Freshmen" are a singing group that started in 1948 (not sure if Geezer was an original member ) and is still active today with the 22nd version of the group...the last original member leaving in 1992. They were popular long before any of the similar groups that came along in the '50's and '60's.
In this tape they sing 21 different songs, but start out wearing their Pilots sweaters singing Day By Day...
1. Day By Day 00:00
2. You're So Far Above Me 01:47
3. Love Is Just Around The Corner 03:41

Finally had a chance to talk to a staff member, and it would appear Emme has a chance to crack the starting lineup taking the graduated Kate Andersen's spot.DoubleDipper wrote:Hmm, a freshman who is a pure scorer...aleppiek wrote:...Women's team is going to be fun though. I would never say "replace" Kate because she had too many intangibles like fierceness, leadership, and attitude that very few could ever replace.
Kate is still at UP working on her MBA...

Wait.
This is the blazer network available to only about a quarter of the metro area that subscribes to Comcast?
What’s worse, the online link to watch in the schedule directs you to the first Seattle game, not the Ducks broadcast. ( the second Seattle game has the same link - ie the game on the 25th, not the December game)
Even my FUBO guide shows “super high roller bowl -Russia” listed as the show at 8:00 pm on the 30th on NBCSNW

Yes, you are correct, the guide is showing something other than UP basketball on the 30th and 6th, but I'm confident the games will be both online (likely at WCCSports.com) and will be televised too.Geezaldinho wrote:Wait.DoubleDipper wrote:Two of the four announced preseason games will be broadcast live on NBC Sports Northwest:

As all the UP games on NBC Sports Northwest are produced in-house by the great team at UP, I don't think we'll have a problem viewing the games.

Game Day!
Pilots at Seattle U. at 2pm.
I have no idea if everyone on the team is injury free, but I do know that Lucy Cochrane is not available as she is still in Melbourne where she has been locked-down until just a couple of days ago due to the pandemic.
We should be able to see the action on the WAC Digital Network:

Just got home at the end of the first quarter, down 21-12. Oh well
Second quarter was 28-9 pilots. Some pleasant things to see from the newcomers.

Haha, that first quarter was about what you would expect from a team that has been practicing less than two weeks...out of game shape and out of sync.Geezaldinho wrote:Just got home at the end of the first quarter, down 21-12. Oh well

Two of the players who had to sit out last season because of injury were especially rusty, but Emme Shearer was very impressive with either either hand during the first half.
Fatigue and fouls could be problem in the second half...

Re: 2020-2021 Schedule/Season
82-70 was the final.
Rust, rust rust, but great to see both teams going after it after what they have been trough this year.
The only surprise for me was Andrews getting in foul trouble and only getting 17 minutes on the court.
That would have really hurt last year.
Pflug did well, though, getting starter minutes and playing most of the point duties. 8 assists, only 3 turnovers.
Fowler17 points, Shearer and Pflug 14 each, and Andrews and Mulheim 12 each.
Fowler added 17 boards for her first double double of the season.
And they all passed up open shots. That will improve.

A good game to have in the rear-view mirror, but considering the circumstances that brought the team to this point, a good first test before hosting the Ducks on Monday.Geezaldinho wrote:Rust, rust rust, but great to see both teams going after it after what they have been trough this year.
A tip of the hat to Rose Pflug who, after missing all of last season, played 31 minutes and led the team in the second half after a less than stellar first half. And Alex Fowler, 34 minutes and 17 points...wow.
UP takes on the Redhawks again in 10 days, hopefully by then they will have figured out how to stop their speedy guards from splitting the defenders and going directly to the hoop...

Pilots had some difficulties with the quickness of the Redhawk guards. May be useful to stop the ball away from the bucket if possible. Pflug and Shearer are going to contribute this year.

The #10 Ducks come to the Chiles Center tomorrow (Monday) at 8pm for their second game of the season after ripping Seattle U. 116-51 on Saturday in Eugene.
The Pilots, are also playing just their second game of the season after beating Seattle U. 82-70 on the road the day before Thanksgiving.
Despite losing 4 starters to graduation, the Ducks look formidable again this season as Taylor Mikesell dropped 28 while the Ducks shot 53% and outrebounded the Redhawks 58-28!!
Remember, the game is on NBC Sports NW and ESPN Radio 910.

Re: 2020-2021 Schedule/Season
The Ducks are likely underrated at this point given the turnover of players and their relative youth. The Pilots will have to play well to make it respectable.
The Ducks have the advantage of unrestricted practice for longer, whatever advantage that is.
Go Pilots.

Curse the pandemic, this game would have been a good one to introduce Pilots basketball to many fans who would not usually come to the Chiles Center.
In 1997 Pat Summit brought her #1 Tennessee team to Portland, winning 74-51 in front of close to 4,000 fans before going on to finish the season as National Champions with a record of 39-0.
And in 2011 #14 Louisville and the Schimmel sisters, raised on the Umatilla Reservation, beat the Pilots 71-42 in front of 3,200 fans.
Funny story about how the Tennessee game came about. The Vols scheduled the game in Portland so Tennessee senior, Laurie Milligan from Tigard, could play in front of her hometown fans. But it wasn't until the team arrived in Portland and headed to the hotel and gym did they learn they had schedule the came against UP, not PSU, the team they had thought they scheduled and prepared for. The final scored indicated they really didn't need to prepare.
