Pooh Update
Our beloved alumnus Pooh Jeter has signed to play for a Club Joventut Badalona in Spain. He had a good season with the Kings and I hope he has more seasons in the NBA. If you can read Catalan then here is the article... otherwise you might want a translator.

Re: Pooh Update
The writing was on the wall with the drafting of Jimmer and Isiah Thomas, which made not extending the option more of a formality.
Here's the text for those who do not speak or read Catalan (other than Geez, cultured show-off), thanks to Chrome's on-board translator:

Re: Pooh Update
Just spotted this on Twitter:
Best of luck to Pooh as he takes another stop in his globetrotting career. Ukraine, Spain, Israel, the US and now China. (I just hope he doesn't have asthma issues...)

I will be taking my talents to China for the 2012-2013 season. #ShandongBulls

The Portland Globetrotters
I propose a little PilotNation road trip this fall to see our professional globetrotting Pilots; my thought is we hit the northern countries early in the basketball year, then head south in January.
Coky Rochin: Mexico (I honestly don't know if he's still playing)
Pooh Jeter: Now in China
Taishi Ito: Japan
Robin Smeulders: Germany
Nik Raivio: Now in Greece
Luke Sikma: Now with another team in Spain
Kramer Knudsen: Now in Romania
Jasonn Hannibal: Slovenia
T.J. Campbell: Now in France
Eric Waterford: Mexico
Nem Mitrovic: Greece
I don’t have an update on Ethan Niedermeyer. He was playing very well in Germany, but last I spoke to him he considered himself “done with basketball” and heading to law school. I haven’t spoken to Ethan for over a year……
You may notice Jared Stohl is missing from this list. Jared played well in Germany last year, but hurt his back this spring. When I saw Jared in late June he was still hurting pretty badly, and his back was apparently is not responding well to treatment. We all love Jared; I wish him well.

Re: Pooh Update
Don't forget that Phil Deworjek and Ross Jorgussen are coaching over there. Phil hooked me up with a polo shirt from his team, the Bakken Bears. Bet on the fact that I'll be rocking that shirt at Chiles, the Orleans, and Interstate lanes.

Where are Phil and Ross besides "over there," and what aspect of "coaching" are they in? What does the shirt look like?

Re: Pooh Update
Thanks for the update on Phil and Ross.
Great to see Ross doing well in the coaching ranks in Germany with TWO junior teams.
I remember the beginning of Ross' senior year when he put up 25 points against UC Riverside in the very first game of the season......and we thought we were off to the races, but won only 6 games that season including over UO at the Chiles Center.
To me, Phil looks just the same as he did at UP, but just 10 years removed from his college days, Ross looks very much the coach now:

How could anyone forget!Geezaldinho wrote:I remember the UO game. The Luke's were stunned.
Down by 4 points with less than 30 seconds to play, Frandsen and Quick each hit 3’s, and then with only 2 seconds left, Coky Rochin hits a free throw and the Pilots win by 1.
I remember it well because I had four cousins at the game with me…..all are UO grads. .
Yea, the Luke's were stunned, I think they combined for almost 50 points, but the Pilots had balanced scoring with five players in double figures.
(It was late November/early December; the Pilots were 3-2 (including a loss to Duke) and the season looked bright; UP would win only 3 more games the rest of the season).

I don't know what is more shameful, that, or ordering a Ruby when it wasn't summer or outdoors on a hot day... UGH.
At least I was there to see the time Zach Attack got tossed out by the referee in front of his mom...

OK, scratching my head on that one….I guess I just don’t remember. Are we talking the same time frame (2001-02) and Vancouver’s Zach Gourde? He was tossed from one of GU’s games against UP?DaTruRochin wrote:At least I was there to see the time Zach Attack got tossed out by the referee in front of his mom...
I remember he was always fun to root against, and always seemed to have foul problems, but it also seems to me he was All-WCC one year.
From this picture, it would appear he was friendly with the refs:

Re: Pooh Update
Hahahha no, completely different Zach... (More of an inside joke than anything else)
But chanting "Gourde is Ugly" and watching him get ejected was fun, and we were actually tight at halftime that game ... until Dan Dickau went off for 54,296 (approximate) points in the 2nd half.

I think I remember that night. Remember kids, don't yell things when it's so quiet they can identify you.

Which halftime kegger?
I was standing next to Zack Attack on the infamous night he was kicked out. I'll never forget the referee immediately turning around, pointing at him, and pointing to the exit. He was gone within 30 seconds.
Can't say it wasn't deserved, but it was hilarious (as all things Zack Attack related tend to be, pizza boxes covering things in the kitchen notwithstanding).

Re: Pooh Update
Did you know there are at least 30 separate threads on PilotNation that have Pooh's name in the title?
I chose this one only because it may bring back some happy memories of the Zach Attack to some of you.....
Anyway, as many of you probably know, Pooh was on campus last week....this is his interview with the Beacon:

Visited Pooh at his new store, Lace, in Hawthorne last month....I gotta say it's pretty cool, but the merchandise is a little too modern for me.
Didn't buy anything, but due to Pooh's generosity, I didn't walk away emptied handed....
