UP has a President-elect, Dr. Rob Kelly and wife Bridget

A 1994 graduate of Loyola-Maryland, Dr. Robert Kelly is the Loyola-Maryland Vice-President providing leadership in mission and identity, intercollegiate athletics, external affairs, and the division for student development. Deeply immersed in both liberal arts and Jesuit education, Dr. Kelly served in executive leadership roles at Union College, Loyola University Chicago, and Seattle University. In addition to his bachelor’s degree in political science, Dr. Kelly earned a master's degree from the University of Vermont, and a Ph.D. from the University of Maryland, College Park. He has also served on Loyola’s Board of Trustees and attended Harvard University’s Institute for Educational Management.

Dr. Kelly will take on the UP President's role on July 1 with inauguration sometime this coming fall.

Perhaps a good sign for UP athletics in the future, during today's address he specifically mentioned basketball and soccer, and ended by shouting out, GO PILOTS!

He does have Jesuit schools in his background. Maybe he'll be in favor of bringing Seattle U. into the WCC.

UP definitely got a two-for-one deal when hiring Dr. Rob Kelly:



Dr. Bridget Kelly is Associate Professor and Graduate Program Director of the Higher Education, Student Affairs, and International Education Policy Program at the University of Maryland. Kelly is also Diversity Officer and Chair of the Council on Racial Equity and Justice in the College of Education at the University of Maryland.

She has M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Social Foundations of Education from the University of Maryland. Her research examines university campus cultures for racial, gender, and educational equity. She focuses on documenting the journeys of women and People of Color in historically White research institutions; preparing socially just educators; and understanding how power is negotiated in qualitative research.

She has authored more than 40 publications, including two articles that have received more than 200 citations each and have been cited in AMICUS briefs for U.S. Supreme Court cases.

I was very impressed by our new president when he spoke today and believe UP can only get better under his guidance.

I don’t think UP was ever an impediment to Seattle U’s return to the conference.
Opposition lay elsewhere.

The transfer portal seems to be affecting all the schools...Dr. Kelly is the sixth member of the President’s Cabinet at Loyola University Maryland to be named a college president since 2015.

Rob's (that is what he prefers to be called) inauguration will be on Friday, September 25 in the Chiles Center.

I do not know what time it begins, but I have been told it will not interfere with the men's soccer game against Cal State Bakersfield at 7pm.
