Can we entice Shantay to hold a meet and greet with Season ticket holders, Pilot Club etc.
And PLEASE we need to know about how the Atletic Department plans to “market” last year and Shantay
If the AD can’t double the season ticket holders there is something seriously wrong!

Not sure the Athletic Department reads this forum, have you considered asking them directly?

Seems like a direct answer would be more helpful than the rest of us speculating...but that is was we are best at. Laughing

I assume (guess? speculate?) the coach is at the Final Four. Isn't that also a coaches' convention? Then there are recruiting trips. National Signing Day period starts April 13th and ends May 18th. Perhaps when all the scholarships are awarded we can get a meet and greet or a virtual session with Coach Legans to talk about next year's team. I know the athletic department reads this forum; one member of the dept. posts occasionally.

The assistant coaches were/are in New Orleans, but not Coach Legans.

"I want to coach in it, not party at it," is what I was told.

BTW, I don't think it is a secret that Coach Pope returned from New Orleans this past weekend. It was a VERY smart move on his part to leave New Orleans early in the midst of thousands of flights being cancelled...he is (finally) getting married on Thursday!! cheers

Said this before- marketing is the key and need not be costly.
There are so many ways to improve the “game experience for fans.”
Should get to the point where “ We went to a party and a basketball game broke out.”
We got some good press - rare to get any Oregonian press last few years.
Coach Legans can definitely coach and he is also
“The story.”
The other story is the “International Team.”
Love the flags of our player.
Looking forward to see how the AD plays this -

Just putting pieces together and looking at the world and workings of college sports, one scenario has always seemed to make too much sense to me.. Legs went to Cal. Cal basketball stinks. Cal bball coach is entering year 4 of 5 having not performed to this point. We all know Coach can coach and seems inevitable he jumps to a Power conference soon. Collision course.

Other interesting names on the list. Ritchie McKay, who spent a couple years at PSU and also at OSU. Stan Johnson, entering his 3rd year at LMU. Joe Pasternack at UCSB, who was an assistant at Cal in 2001-2007. And Danny Sprinkle at Mont. St., who beat us twice last year. What is it with coaches from Montana names? Sprinkle, Tinkle.

In my mind, the Pilots would have to make the tournament before we are in serious danger of losing Legs. The real threat will be after next season. Because of all the Juniors this year, the 2023 team should have the best shot at the dance. After that season, Legs might look at the roster and what he’ll have coming back and see that as his best chance to jump.

Am I crazy to say we should just give him a $1.5 million / season extension right now? That is what he would get for a lower level PAC 12 gig. I know that money doesn’t grow on trees but a basketball team with prolonged success should make that back for the university. The risk is that he wouldn’t live up to the contract, but Legs is as close as you’ll find as a “sure thing” out there right now. What budget would the university legitimately have for an extension?

I trust - believe - hope - Shantay had discussions with UP re marketing the BB teams before he took the job.
If not then, now and UP needs to be creative and fill the gym with fans.
At this point, do a cost/benefit analysis and offer 2:1 or free...just fill the gym.
This is a job for professionals - love our business school and they can help - but please bring in professional sports marketing help now!
