Yep, after beginning the season 0-5 a very young USD team has won 3 in a row, including a resounding 53-48 win over Mountain West powerhouse San Diego St. yesterday outdoors at Petco Park. cat

LMU and SMC also won yesterday....finally, no losses for WCC men's teams.

UP played one of there best games of the year in their loss at home to Boise St. by 10 last weekend....tonight BSU beat LMU 67-66 in Boise.

This sounds familiar....BSU shot 29 free-throw, the Lions only seven. Rolling Eyes

2015-16 Other Games - Page 2 Empty Really!!!

Post by mikemac65 Wed Dec 09, 2015 9:06 pm

How many times do we have to hear about dead week and it's impact on the team? I'm tired of searching for interminable excuses about this program!
Are you truly serious? We lost at home to a team that was ranked at 330+! Is there any real excuse for this? Reminds me of when we were ranked #25 and proceeded to lose to PSU.
I'm sorry the coaching staff has to be held accountable!
'Nuff said!

In other WCC games, Gonzaga lost at home again, this time to UCLA, 71-66.  GU is 6-3.

SMC (6-1) lost their first game, and first road game, at Cal, 63-59.

BYU lost at Colorado, 92-83, and is now 6-3. Pacific lost 71-52 at Fresno St, and is now 1-7.

The winners were Pepperdine (6-4) at Ball St, with a good 72-63 win; LMU (6-4) on the road over CS Fullerton 82-70; and SCU (3-7) beat Pacific Union 73-66 at home.

Gotta say, the WCC is not looking so great this year. Zags beat UConn and 2 Pac-12 teams, but lost to ranked TA&M and 2 Pac-12 teams.  BYU lost to Long Beach St and the rocky mountain Pac-12 teams, and has no wins over majors. Gaels beat Stanford and a bunch of UC/CSU schools at home, but lost their only road game. Pepp lost to UCLA, and is 4-4 vs. mid-majors. Broncos lost their first 7 games, but beat Boston Coll and San Jose St to win last 3. USD (3-6) lost their first 5 games, then beat a couple mid-majors. And USF is 6-4, with losses to Montana and E. Wash.

GU is still gonna win the league, and Pacific is gonna be last.  Everyone else is muddled in the middle.

At least with the Zags 3 losses so far, they can't claim the bad league is keeping them from a #1 seed come tourney time. Suspect

Haha, yea I think the small Seventh Day Adventist school in the Napa Valley is about the size of the Pilots' some time finals-week opponents Lewis & Clark and Multnomah Bible....

Good point, and although I like to see GU beat non-conference opponents, I perversely enjoy watching the Zags lose at home in front of their fans.....

It has not been a good preseason for the WCC, and the conference now ranks #12 in Ken Pomeroy's computer behind the Missouri Valley, Colonial, and Mountain West.....conferences the WCC had previously led.

Yup, not that far from David Ahern's school, Sonoma St.  Very Happy

BTW, David, a fan favorite in his year at UP, does not start at Sonoma St., but is the second leading scorer.....and is shooting over 80% at the free-throw line (21/26).

I recommend Coach Rev hire David as a "technology consultant" after he graduates this spring.

In other games on opening night of WCC play, GU dispatched Pepperdine 99-73, with a big game from Sabonis.

Pacific, with one win in preseason, went to overtime with Santa Clara and prevailed 73-72. Brownridge had 36 points for the Broncos, but 4 players had double figures for UOP.

I peeked at the GU game during ours and it was 37-12. I never checked again.

I watched the end of that UoP vs SCU game. What a thriller! Pacific won it in OT on a buzzer-beater deep three.

Especially impressive given all that Pacific has been through this week.

Hope everyone watched the GU @ SCU game today....SCU is a lot better than their record would indicate and will be a very tough test for the Pilots on Saturday.

It was a breakout game for GU PG Perkins as he scored a career high 26 to keep it close, and a missed layup with 10 seconds left by SCU allowed GU to limp a away with a 79-77 win.

Oh, and just when we think we've seen the worst referees possible, 3 more stepped up today to take away the title of, worst ever!!

BTW, Karnowski had back surgery today, and is out for the season after playing in only 5 games.

Twice in the closing seconds today, GU elected to foul Brownridge before he could get off a three-point shot when GU was up by 3. Both times Browridge made both free-throws instead of electing to miss the second one and the opportunity to score 3 points.

Hope everyone had a chance to watch the Oklahoma at Kansas game tonight.

OU was ranked #1 by the coaches and KU #1 by the AP, and the game lived up to its hype with KU winning 109-106 in 3-OTs.

In the end the KU defense won it as they denied the OU inbound pass with 11 seconds to go, made the 2 ensuing foul shots, and then knocked away OU's last second attempt at a 3.

Best game I can remember watching....but this seemed more about individual efforts than a team effort....hmmm.

And the Pilots get the second win for the bottom-7!

The other conference games were all good news for UP today:

Pepperdine beats USF, LMU beats SCU, and GU beats USD. That puts the Dons, Broncos, Lions and Torreros all at 5 losses.

We can hang a 5th loss on Pacific on Thursday.

In the LA area with friends this weekend and decided to head to Malibu to watch the Waves vs. BYU.  Believe me, it was a lot of fun watching BYU go down for the second time in a week.....complaining to the refs all the way.

I think that puts PU in 3rd place in the conference, a half a game ahead of BYU.

Watched BYU lose at home to Pacific today.  Favored by 17, the Cougars went down 77-70, complaining to the refs all the way.

Pacific just slowed the game down and played at their pace....an excellent win and an excellent game.

Lots of complaining about the refereeing from the BYU fans and players (especially Emery, who fouled out), but the replays showed the refs were actually pretty good.

The loss ended BYU's 17 game home winning streak.
