Media on the Pilots

Post by PurpleGeezer on Fri Nov 27, 2009 10:48 pm

I'll start by calling out the Portland Tribune. No story on the win over UCLA, nothing on the win over Minnesota.

Do you suppose the paper folded?

Well if it didn't, I'm folding the first one I see into an airplane and flying it straight into the recycle bin...

They have historically given us good coverage. Hmmmm. It's not like our School of Business doesnt have the name "Pamplin" on it, or anything... Rolling Eyes

(Trib is owned by Pamplin)

U can't keep up momentum, falls to Portland
With victories over UCLA and Minnesota, the unranked Pilots have certainly padded their NCAA tournament résumé and made a case for Top 25 status.

Here's the story local press should be writing

Post by PurpleGeezer on Sat Nov 28, 2009 12:47 pm

But it took CBS Sports' Gary Parrish to write it.

Enjoying a turnaround

Awesome articles by Parrish and Katz. They both get how big of a deal it is for a program like Portland to win games like this. And they both talk about us as the legitimate contenders that we are. I love, love, love it!

Don't look now folks... we're on the map!!!!!!! Smile

And win or lose Sunday night, this team should also be in the top 25 for the first time ever when the ESPN/USA Today coaches' poll comes out Monday morning.

cheers

Geez makes a good point about the sad lack of attention from the Oregonian though. I understand that they didn't want to send their own beat writer down to LA (times are tough for newspapers), but even just the placement of articles in the print edition... pretty pathetic. Lots of hyperventilating about the Civil War (still a week away) and random NFL stuff... not even one opinion article or column or blog entry or anything.

Now, I've been really happy with Jim Beseda's game coverage - I loved how he annointed us the best team in the state after the win over Oregon - but I do think they could do more. I mean... when is the last time a team from Oregon has been ranked? I guess the Ducks a few years ago. It's a big story and they are (pardon the pun) dropping the ball.

This is awesome. This is the "next season" that we have all been dreaming for the last several years.

I can't help but feel guilty because I haven't paid my dues over the last 5,10 or more years like many (most?) of the posters here. I really like matty's point here though. Every fan base, especially those of teams like Portland before last year, always console themselves by looking forward to the mythical "next year" when the (insert sport) Gods will smile upon their team.

This Portland squad is the realization of over a decade of "next years."

To all of you faithful Pilot fans out there, congratulations on your patience and loyalty. I'm happy to share this with you and of course:

GO PILOTS!

I just like the fact that we are on the front page of ESPN.com's College Basketball page. I know the fans have been through a lot over the years and its good to see that the patience has been rewarded. Its nice to see Portland on the college basketball map.
