Hey I was just thinking... let's have a thread where we can post all the new articles and other stories we find over this week. Might be a bit cleaner than starting up tons of new threads. And as a way to get us started... big ups to our SID Jason Brough for compiling this list:

GREAT THOUGHT!!! My head start's spinning from all the new threads after awhile, I'll just sit back and try to keep my coment's to a minimum. It would be nice to get some of the Pilot Fan Lurker's to POST or new board members to chime up. Now's the time to get the folk's on the Bandwagon. Very Happy

Pilots Media Coverage Bandwagon

Mention of the bandwagon reminds me of a former life as a redskins fan, when Tony Kornheiser jumpstarted his career with this famous series of articles during the 1991-92 season. The bandwagon even became a reality, as the picture above shows.

The bandwagon

(Somewhere I still have the bumper sticker at the top of the page the Post put in each edition)

I looked forward to a new article every Monday morning. The series wasn't hurt by the fact that the 'Skins beat Detroit 45-0 in the superbowl..

Maybe ours will have the same result?

HEY!! one can dream.

*ehem*... back to the Pilots media coverage updates:

Basketball UP sophomore forward Luke Sikma will be interviewed by Kenny Vance on 95.5 The Game’s The Bald Faced Truth radio program at approximately 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday...

Basketball UP cracks the College Insider Mid-Major Top 25 poll at #24: LINK

Basketball UP listed as an "on the bubble" team for the NCAA tourney: Yahoo! LINK

Wow, to even be discussed in these contexts...!

Here is a little tidbit from Pat Forde's article, more about Patty Mills, but does mention Portland.

"Get Well Soon, Patty
Watching Saint Mary's without point guard Patty Mills (36) is like watching Britney Spears sing fully clothed or watching Dario Franchitti drive without gratuitous cutaway shots of Ashley Judd (37). What's the point?

Since the fabulously gifted Mills went to the sideline with a broken right hand at halftime against Gonzaga on Thursday, the Gaels have been outscored by 31 points across three halves and lost twice. Losing to Gonzaga is one thing, but being housed by Portland 84-66 is another. Saint Mary's will have to hope it can remain afloat in the relatively soft West Coast Conference until Mills returns in four weeks. "

Don't know that it is necessarily a compliment, but it is a mention...

Don't know if anyone has added this yet, but this LINK compiles projected NCAA brackets from ~40 different sites out there. Pilots got a couple of votes for a 12 seed and some of the sites haven't been updated since the weekend. Who would have guessed this 3 months ago?!?!

A few things to watch for in the next few days on local sports TV...

Basketball KATU-2 and KOIN-6 came to practice Tuesday and expect to air interviews/practice footage either tonight/Wed/both…

Basketball KATU-2 is planning on going live during Thursday’s 6:30 news broadcast from the Chiles Center (on air about 6:50 p.m.)

Basketball KATU-2 Morning News Traffic Reporter Lauren Allison will be sporting a UP Basketball uniform during Friday’s morning show (5-7 a.m.)

I'm loving the attention....

Looks like we're up to #98 on the Sagarin ratings....

Side note: Seattle U is actually #178 right now.... Ahead of Georgia, Indiana and a number of other traditional schools... Not too shabby...

Moore goodness from the goodness that is Jason Brough:

95.5 The Game Radio Interview with Luke Sikma (online audio): http://955thegame.com/tabid/59/mid/643/view/detail/ItemId/1154/default.aspx

San Francisco Chronicle (Jake Curtis Column): http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2009/02/03/SPFE15MDRI.DTL

Sports Xchange Updated (Feb. 3): http://www.cbssports.com/collegebasketball/teams/report/PORT

I think the Chronicle article is interesting... not only is it nice to get some press in the Bay Area, but it reminds us all how close Reveno was to getting the Stanford job this offseason. Yikes...

Rant Beating a Dead Horse Pull Hair Hitting my head agai

I was looking for this article in the paper and was dismayed to find it on page 5 of the Sports Section. This is a travesty. Why the Oregonian would not feature this game on the front page of its Sports section is beyond perplexing. The way the Oregonian - and the rest of the local press, for that matter - treats local sports teams is disgusting. Why should the rest of the country respect Portland as a major sports town, when our own media fails to? Way to go, Oregonian! Evil or Very Mad

I'm thinking about sending the above (sans emoticons) to the editor. What do you think?

I actually decided to e-mail the Sports Editor. This is what I sent:

To the Sports Editor:

I was looking an article on tonight's hugely important game between the Portland Pilots and the Gonzaga Bulldogs in today's (Thursday, February 5, 2009) paper and was dismayed to find it on page 5 of the Sports Section. This is a travesty. Why the Oregonian would not feature a preview of this game on the front page of its Sports section is beyond perplexing. The way the Oregonian - and the rest of the local press, for that matter - treats local sports teams is disgusting. Why should the rest of the country respect Portland as a major sports town when our own media can't be bothered to? Way to go, Oregonian!

With fewer people reading the dead tree version, article placement will become a thing of the past.
