Great NYtimes article
There's an article in the NYtimes magazine on a different way to look at the value of a player to a team.
The online version is at:
The no-stat all star
It's about the new statistics in sports and the record keeping revolution that started in Baseball a few years ago and has extended to all sports.
The article focuses on Shane Battier, but the article makes you think a bit about how we measure players in all sports.
The key concept for me was that traditional stats measure what's easy to measure, not what's important to measure. A secondary observation is that players will play to the stats rather than to help the team.
Nice read.
