Pilots vs. SE. Missouri St. in San Antonio Sat. 11/27 @ Noon
SEMO is now 3-2 on the year after beating Incarnate Word U.
It was a back-and-forth game with Incarnate Word never leading but tying the game several times, the last time at 76-76, but a buzzer-beater by SEMO resulted in their 79-76 victory.
Both teams had two players who played a lot of minutes, but both coaches went deep into the bench, something that should help playing 3 games in 3 days.
It was an excellent video production with a very good announcer who must have been doing a simulcast radio broadcast by his description of the game. Hope it is just as good for the UP game.

Based on Jason Swygard's closing comments on the radio broadcast, seems Jack Perry is not ruled out for playing on this trip.

Jack will not be back until the 2022-23 season.up7587 wrote:Based on Jason Swygard's closing comments on the radio broadcast, seems Jack Perry is not ruled out for playing on this trip.
Already in his fifth season of college basketball and in graduate school, Jack easily fits the criteria for a medical hardship waiver.
- The injury must be incapacitating, meaning it must be a season-ending injury.
- The injury must occur prior to the start of the second half of the season.
- The student-athlete must not have competed in more than 30% of the season's games or three contests, whichever is greater.

Huge loss for this team. Obviously one of the leaders out there despite not filling the stat sheet on a regular basis. I feel bad for him.

Coach Legans considers Jack to be "Coach Perry" when he is on the court directing the action, in fact, he was hoping to bring Jack back as a "grad-assistant" next season while he finished his graduate degree...Dean Murdoch wrote:Huge loss for this team. In today's action:
KenPom: UP (#302) is a 2-point underdog to SEMO (#282) 72-74 (146).
Las Vegas: UP is favored by 1.5 points with a o/u of 147.

The Good news for Jack is if he wants to play basketball next year there's a good chance of an NCAA medical waiver he won't have to pay to finish that degree.DoubleDipper wrote:Coach Legans considers Jack to be "Coach Perry" when he is on the court directing the action, in fact, he was hoping to bring Jack back as a "grad-assistant" next season while he finished his graduate degree...Dean Murdoch wrote:Huge loss for this team. I'm assuming grad assistant coaches get paid significantly less than full tuition.

Up 3 at the half...and not shooting all that well. Expect better scoring in the second half.
So far, so good on the video stream, and the audio is good too as you can hear the players and the PA.

Fun fact: I used to live in San Antonio and instantly recognized the tall Space Needle like building directly at center court amongst the other buildings...It is called the "Tower of the Americas."
Constructed just in time for the 1968 World's Fair in San Antonio, the fair was known as "Hemisphere."

It wasn't easy, but a good win nonetheless...

Dean Murdoch wrote:I thought we would see more of Yaru Harvey with Perry out but Sjolund seems to be the recipient of the extra minutes so far.
A day later than I thought we'd see it but 17 minutes from Yaru tonight in the win. That's a huge role off the bench for the Pilots this weekend, good for him.
And are we setting aside a scholarship for Chika next year, or.... ?

Yes, Jack will most likely get a medical hardship waiver.dholcombe wrote:The Good news for Jack is if he wants to play basketball next year there's a good chance of an NCAA medical waiver he won't have to pay to finish that degree.

Grad-assistants do have their full tuition paid by the school and they get a stipend.
Starting with Lavar Harewood and Isaiah White, the folks in the Athletic Department Compliance Office have ensured that grad-transfers like Jack Perry who have only one year of eligibility when they arrive on The Bluff but are in a two-year graduate program, have their second-year tuition paid by the university while attending school and working in the athletic department.

We will have to wait and see, but it's about the numbers.Dean Murdoch wrote:And are we setting aside a scholarship for Chika next year, or.... ?
There is one open scholarship, and the original plan was for Jack to exhaust his eligibility at the end of the season and Bol Dengdit was to take his scholarship...now both are expected to be on scholarship next season.
Even if one or more of the current scholarship players were to enter the transfer portal at the end of the season (likely), does Chika need the scholarship and can the scholarship be put to better use by another student-athlete?
And will Coach Legans attempt to bring in a player from the transfer portal at mid-term to take Jack's spot on the roster? It seemed obvious there was a need for another guard in San Antonio, and I believe Cly Griffith is being held out of games so he can transfer to a scholarship school at mid-term and be eligible to play immediately.
It's complicated...

Good to know they've got things set up like that for the grad transfers and have the NCAA rules figured outDoubleDipper wrote:Yes, Jack will most likely get a medical hardship waiver.dholcombe wrote:The Good news for Jack is if he wants to play basketball next year there's a good chance of an NCAA medical waiver he won't have to pay to finish that degree.
