On Twitter, Coach Legans liked a tweet from Verbal Commits:

Eastern Washington G Isaiah Amato has entered the transfer portal.

Isaiah is a 6'5" 175# guard from Portland and Central Catholic. He was a freshman at EWU this year. Had limited playing time.

The women added center Lucy Cochrane from Oregon last year. I wonder . . .

Yes, the Pilots are very thin at point guard with a freshman coming in, Meadows questionable with back issues, and Harvey not ready to takeover...if he sticks around.

The short answer to my own question is NO!

It has been mentioned before, the highest priority is an experienced big man who can do it all.  That may be a big ask, but that is exactly what the team needs to move up a level.

Another player with strong Utah ties that UP should be working hard to get is Wyatt Lowell, a 6-9 forward.

Wyatt, originally from Arizona, did his 2-year LDS mission in Minnesota, was the WAC Freshman of the Year at Utah Valley and then transferred to BYU with Coach Pope before sitting out the required year. In his second year at BYU Lowell played in just 6 games and transferred to Snow College, also in Utah.

This season at Snow (26 wins/8 losses) he started 32 games, averaging 26 minutes, while shooting 87% from the line, 39% from beyond the arc, and 45% overall while averaging 13ppg.  He also did a very good job on the boards, averaging almost 5 rebounds per game.

After all that, Lowell has two years of eligibility remaining...

If you go there and hit Transfer Portal, an algorithm ranks all players currently available in the portal.

It ranks Wyatt Watson at #423 and Joey Calcaterra at #764 so buyer beware, but it should give at least a halfway accurate picture of the top available players.

He ranks Matthias at 267, Wyatt Watson at 423, and Yaru Harvey at 818.

Wayne McKinney from USD is 324.

There's a bunch of guys from Portland St. on the list.

Will Graves, the GU walk-on is number 510.

Everybody is at least 2 stars....I find it hard to believe no 1 star players are trying to transfer even if they end up in a lower division...

Matthias is the 3rd highest WCC player listed, behind to LMU players, Joe Quintana #150 and Ivan Alipiev #193. There are 4 other LMU guys on the list.

No BYU or USF players are listed.

Hmm, you might remember Trey Bonham was among those pesky guards that helped VMI take down UP in early December by hitting three 3-pointers, dishing out 4 assists and scoring 16 points.

If we can't beat him, get him to join us?

Difficult to say for sure, but we know from experience that there is usually not a lot of chatter if the Pilots are recruiting international players.

Dean's just trying to get free beer. If one fine is have out per week from here on out by the time the WCC tournament rolls around again there will be 40+ buckets of beer owed vs just the one.

I can state from experience that if the Pilots win a game in Vegas there are plenty of buckets o' beer to go around. Maybe not enough for Deaner and CanadaGael, but plenty for the rest of us. It's especially good if the staff is buying.
