This guy committed back in October and we all missed it. But apparently didn’t sign an LOI in the fall?
Committed, but will likely not sign...just like Chika.

Verbal Commits confirms he is a Walk-on. If he can contribute as much as Chika, we'll be ecstatic.

Re: 2022 Recruiting
So I checked in on Juan Gorosito this morning.
https://www.laliganacional.com.ar/ligaargentina/page/estad_equipos
If you pick CAO Ceres, that brings up player stats. Gorosito has now played 3 games there and has attempted 14 shots, 13 of which have been 3s. And he's shooting 46.2% on those 3s
Possible that there's multiple Bobby Sharps coming? And maybe this shouldn't be too surprising given that the Pilots were less reliant on the three this year than any of Coach Legans' four teams at EWU (38.1% of FGAs were from 3 this year compared to 39.8, 42.4, 43.4, and 40.9 at Eastern).

Re: 2022 Recruiting
Mike Meadows is the starting point guard, and likely will be for the next two years unless his back continues to give him problems.Dean Murdoch wrote:So I checked in on Juan Gorosito this morning.
Jack Perry is not expected to return to school next season, which makes Yaru Harvey the backup point guard, but it is pretty obvious that despite Yaru's wonderful on-court energy and defense, Juan is the far better shooter.
The dilemma for Yaru is can he stay ahead of Juan for the backup spot, and even if he does, is he patient enough to wait through two more seasons before taking over the top spot, or does he enter the portal.
At 6-5, Nik Milosevic is more of a 2/3, but if he can transition to the 1 spot, I think he could be a good matchup against the opposing teams.
If I am the coach, I want 3 guys who can comfortably handle the point.

It is no secret that Coach Legans is looking for an experienced big man with one or two years of eligibility left.Sound Voltex wrote:@jakelieberman2 wrote:Lehigh transfer Nic Lynch (@Niclynch44) tells me that he's heard from Washington State, Northwestern, UNCW, UCSB, New Mexico, Oakland, UCR, ORU, Portland, Cal Baptist, Seattle U, + more since entering the portal.

Nic Lynch, 6-11/250 from Seattle, will be a grad-transfer.

Yes he did, to no one's surprise.Dean Murdoch wrote:I see one-time Pilots commit Deng Dut entered the portal a couple days ago.
What was it that lured him to Wyoming in the first place? Oh, that's right, some dead period shenanigans.
At 6-4/190, the onetime JUCO First-Team All-America from Melbourne would be a good fit in the WCC, but he got only about an hour of playing time against D1 competition this past season on a very good Cowboys team.
Dut has 3 years of eligibility remaining.

Dut played a total of 89 minutes over 12 games. Two other bench riders for Wyoming are also transferring. Making room for some new additions?

Wouldn't he have just two years left? Wyoming has him listed as a sophomore, and given he played into January there's no way he'd get a redshirt for this season is there?

Did he play a year besides this year? If no and I'm doing 4-1 correctly I get 3.

Haha, sounds right to me. I think everyone gets an extra year.

Oh, I didn't realize JUCOs were getting a year back for 2020-21 as well.

I was just not positive he spent only one year at College of Southern Idaho...it must have seemed much longer to Deng.
This from Dut just days before his NCAA "illegal" trip to the Wyoming campus a year ago:
"I had a few teammates back in Australia that played for Coach Legans, followed him and the Eastern Washington program closely, especially when they went to the tournament and played well against Kansas. I really liked how they played and wanted to see if he still wanted me to come to Portland."
"Coach Legans basically recruited me back and I really liked what he and his staff said. We've built a good relationship in a short amount of time and I'm excited to see that grow. Coach Legans kept it honest from the start and didn't just tell me what I wanted to hear, that stood out to me. Plus, I think Portland is such a great city and school for academics, I've always wanted to play in the West Coast Conference, so when you put all those factors together, deciding to stay with Portland made sense."

Re: 2022 Recruiting
Oops, my research determined that Dut spent two years at CSI. He was on the roster in both 2019-20 and 2020-21. Listed as a sophomore in 2020-21. So perhaps he does only have two years to play.

Re: 2022 Recruiting
Where would Dut fit, position-wise, on the Pilots roster? Does he fill a needed role?
Biggest weakness this past season was depth. Our starting 5 was very solid, especially as the season went on. When everyone was healthy, we only had a 6-man rotation (basically). When Meadows was sidelined, that got worse and we had basically zero production from the reserves. If we are going to move up any further in the WCC pecking order we need some firepower off the bench!

Re: 2022 Recruiting
Yes, the Pilots are very thin at point guard with a freshman coming in, Meadows questionable with back issues, and Harvey not ready to takeover...if he sticks around.NoPoNeighbor wrote:Where would Dut fit, position-wise, on the Pilots roster? Does he fill a needed role?
However:
1. Does Coach Legans want him?
2. Tyler playing the point has been a stroke of genius. It may limit his scoring some initially, but his size mismatch should pay real dividends in the long run.
So, it is settled then, after two years at JUCO and one year at Wyoming, Deng Dut has two years of eligibility remaining!

Re: 2022 Recruiting
Now this is interesting.
From Jefferson HS in Portland.
You’re allowed 4 NCAA seasons and he has played 3, so he should have 2 years left I believe

The 6’3” junior averaged 5.1 ppg, 1.7 rebounds, and 1.1 assists. Shot 37% from the field, and 36% from 3. Played at Washington for 2 seasons before transferring to VCU.

He has already used his 4-year school to 4-year school transfer going from UW to VCU. I guess he could sit a year like in the "olden days" or drop a division.
He was high on the recruiting list at UP when Jefferson won the state title, but he has yet to produce to the potential that was expected of him.
