Pilots @ BYU Today @ 6pm PST
The Pilots have NEVER beaten BYU in Provo, and there is no expectation that will change this evening...
For those who do not have BYUtv as part of their cable package, going to their internet feed to watch the game is just as good:
https://www.byutv.org/player/0e143c01-eb2a-444f-953c-f28a3642fa26/byu-basketball-m-portland-vs-byu-11019
As mentioned in another thread, Crisshawn has been cleared to play, and expects to play in his first D1 game tonight.
It was good to learn that BYU guard Jahshire Hardnett has decided to return to the team after abruptly quitting over a verbal confrontation with the BYU staff during the SMC game last Saturday. It's rare the BYU has an African-American student-athlete on the squad, and it is the hope of many that Jahshire, a JUCO transfer from Mississippi, would open up opportunities for others.
Hardnett graduates in April with one remaining year of eligibility, and had he quit the team it would have totally screwed-up his opportunity to play next season at BYU or as a grad-transfer.
A starter in 32 games last season, Hardnett is averaging over 10ppg this season, but has seen his playing time diminish with the return of no one's favorite, Nick Emery.

Disappointed in the start. Even more disappointed DirecTV doesnt have the BYU channel in hd.

When I tuned in the Pilots were ahead 4-2. Should have turned it off immediately. This is a new low.

Paging Bobby Sharp, paging Bobby Sharp. You’re needed in Provo.
Edit: I’d settle for Tanner Riley at this point

I’m not the greatest basketball mind on this board but I see far too many long pull-up two-pointers attempted early in the shot clock from this team.

WHOA. I did not see that comeback in the cards. Clark for MVP!
Love the Tanner Riley reference, Dean.

I'd probably check again midway through the second half.
This team seems to always finds a way to both come back from and allow double digit deficits at the same time.

BYU’s starters should be back in to start the 2nd half, so I’m prepared for another ugly stretch coming up for the Pilots.

Well at least Clark is back... otherwise this was ugly.

Loved the reaction of Crisshawn's teammates when he hit the three-ball....they were off the bench, jumping around and waving towels. It's moments like that in a terrific young man's life that overshadow the loss, IMO.PilotNut wrote:Well at least Clark is back... otherwise this was ugly.
I'll miss my pregame sideline talks with Crisshawn, but it will great to finally see him on the court in the Chiles Center on Saturday.

Former Trailblazers that coached the Pilots:
Larry Steele - record 54 - 141, 28% wins
Michael Holton - record 54 - 91, 37% wins
Terry Porter - record 28 - 54, 34% wins
Combined record - 136 - 286, 32% wins
Out of curiosity, I checked Damon Stoudamire. He's at 35 - 47, 43% wins.

It is those percentages Bullwinkle which make the latest moniker of a registered user "bringrevenoback" more poignant than funny.

Reveno's record was 140 - 178, 44% wins.
I do think Terry deserves all of this year and maybe next to prove out. Lots of young players. Let's see how much the team improves over the course of this season. We may not win more than expected, but we should at least be a threat, not a practice game.

Re: Pilots @ BYU Today @ 6pm PST
Let us not revisit Reveno's era, that was not the point. The point is that there exists a growing body of evidence suggesting that the program may benefit from different leadership. One of the assistants?
I hope that injuries and youth explain away the fortunes of the last three years, but certainly the jury is out.

The problem I have is- can you name a player on the team that you would say has improved in the past couple years? I hate to say it, but I really can't. Something is amiss with player development. These guys are more talented than some teams that are ranked 100 or even 200 points higher in Pomeroy.
