Kendrick finalist for Rhodes Scholarship, will miss NCAAs
HUGE congrats to Parkes Kendrick, who is a finalist for a Rhodes Scholarship: http://portlandpilots.com/news/2016/11/15/womens-cross-country-kendrick-a-finalist-for-rhodes-scholarship.aspx
But unfortunately, her interview is taking place this weekend in Seattle, forcing her to miss the NCAA championships. That's a big blow to the team, as Parkes has consistently been one of the team's top runners. And it's really a bummer too, since this is the first time the women have ever made the NCAAs and with a full squad they had a chance at making a really strong showing. Hopefully the rest of the team can step up and deliver.
Wish there was something the Rhodes Scholarship committee could do to allow her to compete.![Sad](https://2img.net/i/fa/i/smiles/icon_sad.gif)
Side note: This is an *extremely* prestigious scholarship. Former soccer player Jessica Tsao was also a Rhodes finalist a few years ago, and I believe she was the first UP student to be a finalist in many, many years.

I did not see Parkes' name on the list of this year's 32 Rhodes Scholarship recipients from the US....
Regardless, Parkes is a brilliant, kind, giving, and popular young woman who will certainly garner a scholarship somewhere upon her graduation, and will go on to do wonderful things in the world.

She is amazingly talented... too bad the 2 huge events overlapped. It had to be hard missing the meet with her team!
