Responsibilities:
The University of Portland, an NCAA Division I institution and West Coast Conference member located in Portland, Oregon, is seeking applications for the position of Student Development Coordinator. The selected candidate for this full-time position willserve as a member of the Athletic Department's Student Services team, providing hands-on coordination and mentoring to a select population of student-athletes while also providing support services for all teams and student-athletes in the areas of student development, academic advising and compliance.
Student Development
•Meet daily with a select group of student-athletes to coordinate academic support activities, including tutoring, assignment tracking, study skills and time management
•Coordinate tutoring services and assignments for all student-athletes
•Manage study hall for all varsity teams
•Assist with practice and class time conflicts; coordinate priority registration, assist with identification of practice times for select teams
•Manage the compilation, distribution, and updating of missed-class-time calendars for all teams
Compliance
•Oversee selected monitoring activities related to recruiting, eligibility, and playing and practice seasons
•Assist in rules education efforts for student-athletes, coaches, staff, recruits and other constituencies
Student Support
•Direct meals processes for student-athletes, including training table, vacation period, and pre-game meals
•Direct housing process for student-athletes, including early arrival, late stay, vacation period and summer school
•Provide advice and counsel to student-athletes, coaches, recruits and parents related to Student Development activities and programming in the Athletic Department
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required, as well as a minimum of 2-3 years working in college athletics, higher education, or equivalent. Candidates must demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills; exceptional administrative and organizational skills, the ability to meet deadlines while handling multiple projects and priorities, and an excellent attention to detail. Candidates must also possess a professional demeanor and the ability to work effectively with various constituencies including prospective students, current students, their families, the general public, faculty, administrators and alumni. Prior experience working with students or student-athletes is preferred. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications. The position is classified as full-time, exempt, and includes full benefits.
