The start of a new job has had me on a minor PN sabbatical recently, but a friend sent this to me today and I just couldn't resist:

Thanks RJ, lol

I had seen some of that clip before, but seeing the whole thing just makes me smile. If a miracle doesn't happen and he catch on in the NBA I will have to say some Europeon team is going to get a good shooter.

Soccer has a great championship series and all but...

I think they should pick World Cup teams based on FIFA ranking, strength of schedule, margin of victory, coach and sportswriter polls, etc. Much better than going through 2 1/2 years of qualifying every time. clown

Well, the club teams would certainly love it if teams had less qualifying games to play. And it is kind of silly when even a team like the USA can send second- and third-stringers to beat up on the likes of Barbados and (dare I say it?) Canada.

Of course, with all five South American teams advancing to the knockout rounds and four of them going on to the quarter finals (and Chile probably could have beaten some of the teams that did, just had a tough match-up against Brazil), you have to wonder how well the teams that didn't qualify would have done. Likely better than France, North Korea, Honduras, etc.

I don't know what the answer is, and I do like how the World Cup is truly international, but it does seem like qualifying for the cup is unfairly difficult for South American teams as opposed to Asian, African, and even European teams. (Or am I all wet on that? I'm sure someone can probably prove that it's actually quite a bit more difficult for European teams, but still... it just *seems* like it when they qualify 10, right?)

right now there is a hue and cry to consolidate CONCACAF and COMNEBOL on the theory that the Western hemisphere could come to dominate world Football, or ast least compete with Europe.

The mega groups would have 8 or 9 slots, and the best teams would get in.

I think it's suicide for CONCACAF. the USA and Mexico would most likely only get in every second or third World Cup cycle, and we's see even more South American teams in.

I will say, though, that Europe really hasn't justified having 12 teams in.

I had not heard about trying to change qualifying. No way would USSF, the Mexican FA, or anyone else in CONCACAF go for that. How in the heck would Honduras or Costa Rica stand a chance in that system, not to mention surprises like Trinidad and Tobago or Jamaica?

Some European fans go on about how hard it is to qualify from Europe, but every group has a couple countries like Andorra and San Marino in it. CONMEBOL teams only get Venezuela twice in 18 games.

I'm not a fan of either guy, but I have to say Beckham's suit was nicer.
