Did anyone else see Sports Reporters on Sunday (no I am not admitting I watch the show, I just happened to see it this week)? John Saunders paraphrased when talking about Notre Dame, "Notre Dame is so poor in the red zone that they are considering changing the name of Touchdown Jesus to Field Goal Jesus."

I don't know if he stole that from somewhere else, but I laughed.

Well he clearly wasn't going to quit and leave his atrocious salary on the table... So nice of the ND boosters to help pay for 2 head coaches at once.... Again...

I think ND will be paying at least 3 coaches at once.

it's official

“We have great expectations for our football program, and we have not been able to meet those expectations,” Swarbrick said. “As an alumnus, Charlie understands those goals and expectations better than most, and he’s as disappointed as anyone that we have not achieved the desired results.”

Swarbrick recommended the dismissal Sunday night to Notre Dame’s president, Rev. John I. Jenkins, C.S.C.

“We have established an evaluation process for all of our athletic programs that, in the end, results in a recommendation from Jack to me,” Father Jenkins said. “I accepted Jack’s decision and look forward to working with him on selecting a new head football coach who is the very best choice possible for the University and especially for our student-athletes.

Swarbrick announced that Rob Ianello, the Irish assistant head coach/offense, wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator, will assume responsibility for football operations until a new coach is hired. Ianello has spent the past five seasons on the Notre Dame staff and previously was part of football staffs at Wisconsin (1990-93, 2003-04), Arizona (1994-2002) and Alabama (1987-89).

And, it's Kelly to lead the Irish. LINK

Some of his current players are none too happy about it.

Hmmm, some interesting facts about the effects of pressure on coaches at ND:
Frank Leahy retired after the 1953 season at age 45 for health reasons and never coached again. Ara Parseghian retired after the 1974 season at age 51 because of the stress and never coached again. Dan Devine retired after the 1980 season at age 56 and never coached again.

Tough job!

Rochin54, does this apply to you?
Casual Friday at the Notre Dame athletic offices has been canceled, for what it's worth ... Who knew they even had Casual Friday?

If you accidentally run into the new Coach as you stroll campus, what is the proper etiquette? Bow? Avert gaze? Hearty handshake?

Well, it turns out that a hearty handshake is the proper etiquette. I ran into Kelly Last Friday after his press conference. The exchange went something like this:

Me: "Rochin54 - Proud UP Alumni"

Him: "Brian Kelly"

Me: "Nice to meet you, Brian"

I'm pretty sure we're on a first name basis now.

Did he ask if you had any eligibility left? Weren't you a cornerback? I'm pretty sure there aren't any on the roster, based on their passing defense stats.

I had a short stint as a pro in the Canadian Football League during a spring break trip to Vancouver with DTR. It was wild, and I wouldn't trade it for anything, but it ruined my amateur status.
