UP 3- Billikens 1
UP played a much better game in it second outing at the teams traded PK's (Collen Warner and St Louis' Mike Roach)and the Pilots scored two more times. one goal was a header off a corner corner at the start of the second half by Ryan Kowaluk, the other was on a breakaway counter by Ryan Luke with assists from Michael Nielson and Collen Warner. The Billikens were pushing up trying for the equalizer and it backfired.
After losing most of the 50-50 chances early, UP finally found its grove and started getting its chances against 21st ranked St. Louis. a much better outing than Friday night against Virginia. although the shots were 10-4 them and the corners were 8-4 them, we made ours count.
Nice result and something to build on. Unfortunately, the way the schedule is, we won't see them again until well into next month.

3-1, actually. They got one back on a PK call in the second half.
I liked the way we played today too, especially in the second half, but I also think that we kept better possession in the Virginia game despite the result. In the first half the Bills seemed to have the better run of play.

I forgot to mention it was nice to see Casey Keller at the game. He was greeting fans and enjoying the Pilot win.

And the word from Billikens National HQ.
"Overall we did not play poorly, but again we had key individual defensive lapses at critical moments that led to their goals," Billikens head coach Dan Donigan said. "If we take care of our defensive responsibilities, those goals don't happen. It was a back and forth game and we had our chances offensively. I credit Portland for taking advantage of its opportunities.
"It's a long season still, and we will sort out and eliminate the problems. We bounced back after the New Mexico loss, and I expect we will do the same in time for next week's match against Loyola Chicago."

Re: UP 3- Billikens 1
The single forward formation required them to play possession soccer and it worked well on Sunday. After the game I spoke with several players and they all felt very good about their effort and the result. They are working hard at being fit, and it showed.
