Aren't we lucky
that the Zags deign to play us?
From Rachel Bachman's article in the O LINK:
If you're invited for dinner at Mark Few's house, do not refer to Gonzaga as an underdog, Cinderella or, especially, a "mid-major." Not only would it irk him, it wouldn't be accurate.
"How do you define it?" Few said after the Bulldogs beat Western Kentucky 83-81 to reach the sweet 16. "I mean, we're going to go get on a private plane and go home now, OK? And we have a new arena, and we can recruit anywhere in the country or even overseas. Certainly myself and my staff are compensated at a very high level.
"We can schedule anybody we want in the entire country we want, at any time. So, I mean, I just grow weary of always trying to put guys in a box."
Gonzaga: the only BCS school without a football team!

I'd love to see the Zags with a football team. When they played Georgia it would be the Bulldogs vs. the Bulldogs.

Re: Aren't we lucky
Louisiana State University-Shrevport and Betel College in Indiana use Pilots but they are not NCAA schools.
Did you know that the students voted "Chinooks" to be the mascot but the president opted for Pilots? Why did they vote?
Personally, the new P logo while clever in its depiction of the geographical location of the university on a map, it is sort of androgynous. Am I the only one that thinks anyone outside the area thinks of it as anything more than a P for Portland? Given the schools background I would simply go back to the Wally Pilot and ships wheel or something ominous like the Resurrection. But I guess thats too close to sacrilege

Re: Aren't we lucky
The students just voted to bring Wally back this year (as part of the class gift)... NO clue what It will look like, but I think he needs to have a little stand with a ships wheel on it and a horn thingy to pull when he get's wheeled out... Maybe I'm just thinking over the top....

I love it. In fact make it a full on ship. Or at least have a bow (that is the pointy part in the front right?). Or maybe make it a self propelled fully enclosed vessel.
Every time Wally comes out, they can play Leo "I'm the King of the World" on the loudspeaker.

Re: Aren't we lucky
Hey I voted for the whole boat thing a while back. As I stated before, the only concern would be driving the thing on the pitch. You could build it around a golf cart. Put in a ships wheel, and a P.A. system. You could put in a lot of sound effects; a boo sound when the ref makes a bad call or a non-call, a cannon shot on a goal and smoke machine, you could put the pilot flag on the stern.I am thinking a white hull with purple accents. The name on the stern could be something like USS Pilots or something cooler. The possibilities are endless. Maybe a plank to put the opposing teams effigy on. The whole thing could be made of paper mache (another use for newspaper). Ah but I watch too many horror movies.
The whole rig might not be a classy look so I doubt the University would approve it. But its sure would be fun. For indoor sports maybe just Wally shows up in a purple peacoat and captains hat and canvas boat shoes.
All the icons would be secular so I don't think it would offend the religious foundation of the school.

Well, a pea coat would be better than the old "flasher" rain slicker I remember from several years ago.

Ironic given that "Wally" was a nickname for former university president Fr. Paul Waldschmidt.

Auto Pilot, great minds thinks alike!
I have had a dream of a golf cart retro-fitted to look like a little tugoat for years. Wally could cruise around Merlo on it, he could come out to the court during timeouts on it... it could have a little whistle and he could have a big pilot wheel and toss T-shirts from it... seriously, it would be amazing and nothing would make me happier.

Re: Aren't we lucky
Hahaha a golf cart tug for Merlo and then like a big wheel thing to have him stand on in the corner of chiles with a steam/fog horn thing to pull... it could look something like this:
of course not gold... And I think a fog horn thing would be way better than a tiger growl after made baskets... who would do that

Re: Aren't we lucky
And for merlo:
the MS Relief could be recommissioned!!!
(can you believe they actually used to use this to bring relievers from the bullpen??? haha after a while the players refused to ride it in, but personally I think it would be AWESOME)
Haha may as well give credit where credit would due:

Those hats still look good today.
After goals at Merlo, you could sound a foghorn like Drummer's beloved Sharks.

Nice. Man, those windows are dark in that photo, TruRochin. Is that the boat from the cartel? What are they hiding in there?
