2020 WCC Tournament

Pilot women play their first game Saturday at 1:00pm. Their opponent will be the #5 seed Pacific Tigers, who beat SCU 63-49 today. UOP played very well and mostly dominated the Broncos, using their height and good shooting. Since they beat the Pilots twice already, it will be a challenging game. Hopefully the extra bye and fresher legs will help the Pilots.

Face it, UOP has the faster, longer, more athletic players, and their bench is deeper than that of the Pilots.

The Pilots' 40-minute press just didn't work against the Tigers the first two games, so it will be matter of adjustments on the part of the UP staff to come up with the right solution.

I expect the Tigers to come out fast as they've already played a game in the Orleans Arena, a very difficult place to shoot until the player's figure out the background behind the baskets.  

The game is live on BYUtv at 1pm with a replay on ROOT Sports at 11:30 tonight (Saturday), and at 4:00 on Sunday afternoon.

The Pilots are in the house!

Pilots have not adjusted to the shooting, struggling from 3P, but working it inside and making FTs.

Jason Swigard just asked for a full time out with 30 seconds or so left, said had to pee. Don't think he meant that for the air.

Fowler is so, so, so good. We're going to be spoiled watching her over the next few years.

It's a lot of fun to watch a Pilots team play on the weekend in Vegas!

The Pilots never did find the range, going 1-17 from beyond the arc, but if Coach Meek's strategy was to draw UOP fouls, it worked!!

Three Tigers fouled-out, including their leading scorer, and UP hits 27-30 from the line while scoring 38 of their 76 points in the paint.

Next up, #12 Gonzaga in the semi-finals (the first time the Pilots will be in the semi-finals since losing to #20 GU in 2011) on ROOT Sports NW at noon on Monday.

The Pilots have 19 wins on the season...their most wins since the '97-'98 season.

After being swept by BYU in the regular season, #6 PU upset the #3 Cougars, 62-51 and move on to play #2 USD on Monday at approximately 2:30 on ROOT Sports NW.

It was a big game for transfer Hannah Friend who scored 15 points with 5 rebounds for PU, while WCC Defensive Player of the Year, 6-7 Sara Hamson fouled out after scoring 11 for BYU.

All of a sudden, the break in the tournament schedule, not laying on Sunday, looks better. Allows the Pilots a day to rest before playing GU, taking away some of their bye advantage.

No rest for these Pilots, working on a Sunday, preparing for Monday.

So, if you turned off the semi-final game after GU's near-perfect first quarter, the Pilots fought back from down 20 points to trail by 4 points at the half. 39-35. Held GU to 10 2nd quarter points. Gritty play.

And now up by 2 at the end of the 3rd quarter!

Darn, kinda wishing I hadn't flown home from LV this morning. Well done, ladies.

Yeah, I just liked the statistical hypothetical.

After going 1 of 17 on 3s Saturday, Pilots made 4 of 13 today (31%). Plus they improved on FTs, going from 90% Saturday to 92% (12 of 13).

Historic win for the program.
