2016 International Indoor Track and Field Championship

Post by DoubleDipper on Fri Nov 15, 2013 12:21 pm

From KATU.com (edited):
PORTLAND, Ore. – Oregon’s track and field reputation got another boost on Friday when Portland was selected to host the 2016 World Indoor Track and Field Championships.

A panel at the International Association of Athletics Federations unanimously decided to award the championship to Portland over Birmingham, England. The IAAF is the world governing body for track and field.

The IAAF president said both cities had “wonderful bids,” but they ultimately picked Portland because they are trying to grow the sport in the United States. Track got a big boost in England thanks to the London Olympics and several other major IAAF events are being held in the UK.

The Portland meet will be organized by TrackTown USA.

The IAAF prez must have never run on that portable 150m track that travels up and down I-5.

Interesting....this event is to be held over a 3 day period in March, 2016 in the Convention Center.

TrackTown USA will install a 200M track and seating for about 8,000....build and tear down time is about 5 days each. Shocked

Too late, Merritt Paulson pissed off the wrong four architects offering to build a pristine AAA ballpark in its place.  Now it's on some kind of national registry and it ain't going anywhere. /minirant
