Kinsella, Betterbed named to track and field academic team
The USTFCCCA announced the scholar athlete of the year (Oregon's Galen Rupp)
It also announced the All Academic team of 40 runners, and David Kinsella and Tommy Betterbed were both on it.
To be eligible for the award a student-athlete must carry a minimum 3.25 cumulative grade point average and must finish in the top 15 finishers (or top 10%) of the field at their respective NCAA regional meet or attain All-American status at the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships.
Only 6 NCAA schools placed more then 1 athlete on the team (the entire Pac 10 and Ivy league only place 3).
Congrats to them and UP!

Location: Lowry the tailor lived there when boys were boys. In his day he was fond of the gun. He always carried his powder loose in the tail pocket of his coat. He usually had in his mouth a short dudeen; but in an evil moment he put the dudeen, lighted, in the pocket among the powder. Mr. Lowry was an eccentric man.

Biology>>Business Admin. Maybe it was his keen business sense that allowed him to convince the NCAA to let him in after he went pro out of high school.

The cool bits:
Kinsella and Betterbed were the only representatives on the prestigious list from the West Coast Conference.
UP’s squads sport a 3.269 (men) and a 3.491 (women) team GPA, which are the highest among all WCC schools.
On the men’s side, Portland had the fourth best grade point average of teams that finished in the top-25 at the national meet, only bested by Stanford (3.399), Northern Arizona (3.300) and Alabama (3.302).
“To finish seventh at the NCAA championships and have the fourth best grade point average among our peers demonstrates that we indeed do have national-level student athletes,” said men’s head coach Rob Connor. “By this measurement, you’d have to say our team is a little better academically than they are athletically. I am really proud of that fact.”
So... not only are we far and away the best teams in the WCC, we are also the smartest. Nice!!!
