oh my.

Brian will be missed. I knew of him not only as a writer, but as one who coached several kids I know in the Lake Oswego area.

This is truly a loss. My prayers go out to his family.

i have long been a fan of brian meehan an i dont how to express my sorrow on his pasisng. i remember in the last year or two he disappeared for a month or so an i was afraid that he was no longer w/the Oregonian. Later I/we found out he had gall blalder surgery about the same time my dad also had gall blader surgery. i felt at that time i cud relate to his problem. An while i feel i can still relate, brian was 57, my dad is 80. when i read about brian's pass'g, my very good friend at work [u of p alumni] felt as bad about meehan passing; almost as bad as we did about clive...almost!!! it's very, very sad, an whlie i didnt shed a tear,...i am choked up. how sad,...an i think we can all agree he was a friend of u of p!!

R.I.P
Brian

p.s. i cant find an emotioncon that represents my sadness. it is truly a sad day. here is my emotioncon. Sad

Oregonian's Brian Meehan Passes Empty Re: Oregonian's Brian Meehan Passes

I'll miss Brian. He was down to earth and just wrote in a very well-informed, casual style that felt like a cozy old pair of slippers.

As opposed to the attention-starved, controversy-starting, and loud-mouthed, opinionated knuckleheads that usually fill the O's Sports Column's the past 35-40? years or so. Since George Pesaro retired from his full-time position as Sports Editor, they always seem to have at least one sports columnist to stir up trouble, and a second, much-respected writer like Brian.

I have often wondered whether "being controversial" is a part of management's job description for this one position. It seemed to start with Steve Duin, who I think[?] followed the rather large shoes of Pasero the columnist, and filled them with dirt on purpose. Just my opinion. Anyone else have similar conspiracy therories?
