More, updated information about the new team...

I do not watch NBA basketball except for the finals in JUNE, but I do plan to turn out to watch young and upcoming international players and guys not that far removed from being college stars in the Chiles Center.

Perhaps, it will get folks in the habit of coming to campus and they'll want to see the Pilots play when the Blazers G League team is not playing. (I know, always the optimist). Rolling Eyes

This is the thought I had as well. Certainly couldn't hurt. I bet there are some basketball loving Portlanders out there who will see this news and think to themselves "University of Portland? Never heard of her." So, yeah, couldn't hurt.

Agree: first you got to let people know that there is a gym on the. bluff. If the “rent” goes to the Athletic Department could help basketball.
Bottom line  - It’s all about marketing and I don’t know whether the university is ready to hire - or has hired - aprofessional marketing group for basketball and other athletics - soccer can on past history - basketball needs help - we have a great coach, some good players, nice facility, and what is needed. is for the public to be motivated - however - to show up!
Where is Jose Slaughter now that we need g

In this podcast, Dewayne Hankins, the Trail Blazers' President of Business Operations, discusses the process of standing up a new team in roughly eight months in the Chiles Center...

You can start at about the 5:30 point:

The NBA G League recently held an expansion draft for the (so far, unnamed) Portland team in which 14 players were selected from a group of "unprotected" players from other G League teams. No more than two players could be chosen from any one team.

I was disappointed Portland did not choose anyone from the west coast, but perhaps none were made available. There will probably be a lot of changes to the roster between now and the beginning of play in November, but here's the list.

Chudier Bile (Salt Lake City Stars)  6-7/195 Georgetown
Michael Devoe (Ontario Clippers)  6-4/185 Georgia Tech
Jawun Evans (Cleveland Charge) 6-0/190 Oklahoma St. (point guard)
Deng Geu (Texas Legends) 6-9/215 North Dakota & North Texas
Kyle Guy (Cleveland Charge)  6-1/165 Virginia
Justin Jackson (Long Island Nets) 6-8/220 North Carolina
Matt Mooney (Delaware Blue Coats) 6-2/200 Air Force, South Dakota, and Texas Tech
EJ Onu (Santa Cruz Warriors) 6-11/240 Shawnee St.
Elijah Pemberton (Santa Cruz Warriors) 6-5/195 Hofstra
Quinton Rose (Westchester Knicks) 6-8/185 Temple
Aamir Sims (Westchester Knicks) 6-8/245 Clemson
Jeremiah Tilmon (Raptors 905) 6-10/260 Missouri
Romeo Weems (Memphis Hustle) 6-7/215 DePaul
Donovan Williams (Long Island Nets) 6-6/190 Texas and UNLV

Yesterday, Jim Moran was announced as the head coach of the team.

Moran started his NBA coaching career with the Portland Trail Blazers in 2014–15, where he originally worked as the team’s associate video coordinator. In 2015, Moran was elevated to the position of assistant coach, where he remained through the 2020–21 season. In recent years, Moran spent two seasons (2021-23) as an assistant coach for the Detroit Pistons.

As a player, Moran spent 2001 until 2011 with CB Gran Canaria in the Spanish ACB League. He ended his career with 2,060 points, 802 rebounds, and 321 assists. He was the first player to have his jersey number honored by the team, according to the Portland Trail Blazers.

A native of Syosset, NY, Moran played collegiately at William & Mary where he was named to the All-Colonial Athletic Association Team in both his junior and senior seasons. He also played for the Irish Men’s National Team from 2001-06. alien

Blazers wrote:Rip City Remix is an homage to the vintage era of the Portland Trail Blazers, and emulates the colors and an identity akin to the 1970s, which is the era the Trail Blazers were born.  The concept of Rip City Remix was inspired by the Portland community and fans — a group of creators, crafters, DIY’ers, makers, and trailblazers. Rip City Remix takes the same approach of being inventive and creative by taking something and reimagining it to make it new again. This concept mirrors the G League where a variety of young and upcoming players, each with their own unique skills, backgrounds and playing styles, will be mixed to create a team that works together with the goal of development and advancing to the NBA to ultimately enhance the Trail Blazers team.

I have never followed the Blazers, nor the NBA for that matter, so I will just take their word for it... scratch

I don't know, but it's 60 spots and $300 so for the low low piece of $18000 you could ensure you're the only one at open tryouts.... And in the case of most of us still not make the team
