Eastern Washington's leading scorer, 6'7" G Steele Venters, has entered the portal. Played 3 years at EWU, so was a Legans recruit. Career 40% 3P shooter.

I watched quite a few OU games this past season and have to say that both Groves brothers would have put up better numbers in the Legans/UP system than they did as Sooners, just as virtually all the players who transferred in under Legans tutelage have done.

Now preferring to be called Jake, Groves has only one season of eligibility remaining, but unlike other "one-and-done" transfers, he does NOT have to start over and learn offensive and defensive schemes while immediately fitting into the Legans system after playing for him at EWU.

Although it may be fair to say that Jake would like his piece of the NIL pie and will likely have a fair number of suitors as a transfer, I will be disappointed if he does not end up at UP to show off his talent before making a bid to play professionally after graduation.

Actually, he only played one year at EWU. Transferred in from Louisiana.

Creighton's Ryan Nembhard (6'0" 170# SO G) is in the portal after two years. Started every game there. Averaged 12 ppg, 5 apg. His brother played for GU. GU's biggest weakness this year was point guard.

Update: the GU board thinks he's headed to Tommy Lloyd's Arizona team. Lloyd recruited his brother. Tampering accusations are mentioned, along with fears GU can no longer compete $-wise for top players.

GU fans are concerned Lloyd is tampering with a Creigton player...that's rich, especially since a preexisting relationship exists between the family and the coach.

It is a very big deal, as Ashworth is one of the best in the country.

I suppose he could follow Coach Odom to VCU, but he's capable of going to a much higher level program and get paid handsomely...or maybe he'll just go where his wife wants to go... Rolling Eyes

No stars coming out of high school. Two years averaging 6 to 8 ppg. Then a huge leap: 16 ppg and 43% 3P shooting. 23 years old in a month and two more years to play.

Any chance Mrs. Ashworth is in this picture?
