Big Men's Soccer Games Empty Big Men's Soccer Games

Post by SoccerPilot Thu Oct 27, 2016 3:36 pm

New to the site and to post. Have seen a lot of great things here and even more great fan insights on the games at UP. Just wanted to get something going for the upcoming men's soccer games this weekend vs. LMU (10/28) and San Diego (10/30).

The Pilots are currently in 1st place in the WCC and on the cusps of having a RPI high enough for playoffs. Winning the league will also be auto-entry to the tourney! They deserve our support this weekend and it looks like the Timber Army may also be coming out to the game due to the Leonard Griffin connections.

Go Pilots, get two more wins! Looking forward to another Benji flip after a goal! Reminds me of Nielsen back in the day!

Couldn't agree more about how important fan support will be for the Pilots for these 2 games. And......kids get in free and adults for as little as $5. Weather looks promising so let's fill the place up! GO PILOTS!

There are not nearly enough opportunities to see the men's team at home this season....a lot students (including me) will be there on Friday and Sunday....with a MBB on Saturday.

Didn't know of Coach Griffen's connection to the Timbers, but if he was as well liked by the fans "back in the day" as he is by the students today, there should be a strong turnout from the Army....

Exciting times for Pilots soccer. pirat

Whoop!

Tonight's win puts the Pilots at 12 points with Pacific second in the league with 7 points.

Nice goal from Edwardson with a good assist from Sanchez.

Pacific drew with Santa Clara.

.....and now, after today's 4-0 win over USD in the rain, the Pilots are in first with 15 points....still 5 more than second place UOP, the team they have a showdown with  next Sunday in Stockton.

UP's RPI is #41 and UOP'S is #24, but before that showdown the Pilots have a good opportunity to increase its RPI when they go against #17 Denver on the road on Thursday

A win or a tie against Pacific or a win against St. Mary's gets them the automatic conference bid.

Barring that, they would Probably get an at large bid if they beat Denver.

This is an amazing turnaround in year 1 under Coach C-V. I love his positive energy whenever I hear him talk... and I love the talk about tradition and soccer's deep roots not only at UP, but in the Rose City.

Imagine when he is able to get more of "his" players on the roster!! Twisted Evil

GO PILOTS!

Indeed. But too bad the Timbers signed Marco Farfan from T2... he had committed to play for the Pilots. Considering they will likely just loan him back to T2 for next season, it's too bad they didn't just let him play on The Bluff even for just one year. Oh well.

One really neat thing from Saturday's game was all the alumni players in attendance. There must have been something like 20 former players there, which was really nice to see given the coaching transition. Nick has indeed done a great job in staying connected to the past at UP.

It's really too bad there weren't more Pilots fans in the seats for Sunday's game. For me, the best part of this team is the change in attitude where no one is above the team and every single player is giving his all every minute of the game. That hasn't been there in recent years and the dramatic turnaround in results can be attributed to this change as much as the addition of the new talent. Coach Nick has brought a positive attitude to the team that is contagious. This was the first game that we didn't leave immediately as the game ended and we were pleasantly surprised to see all the players circling the entire field slapping hands with fans and thanking us for being there. This team definitely deserves better fan support than they had on Sunday and I hope everyone turns out for their last home game on the 12th. Their game is energetic and entertaining, well-played and a pleasure to watch. Thanks Coach Nick for a new culture for Pilots soccer.
