Re: 2017 Recruiting
There is a 6-4 9th grader (Class of 2019) by the name of Majok Deng, a SG from Tucson, whose coach claims has received and offer from USF. That same coach claims UP will "probably make an offer soon."
Deng is said to be "the top prospect in his class from Arizona."
Class of 2019! Sorry, I'm not starting that thread!

If not you, who? If not now, when?
And that comment made me laugh, NoPo!

It is my recollection this thread was started by the late Dean Murdoch, the beer drinking head-banger, who eventually lost his life (or was it his will to live?) to testicular cancer.
Is the new Liberal government behind this Canadian revisionist history?

You've got to watch the movie again! Deaner pulls through in the end, it was a feel-good movie. Except for poor Farrell

Here's the link to a 2 minute video of Poole committing to Michigan.DoubleDipper wrote:Jordan Poole, a 6-3 combo guard from Milwaukie, Wisconsin is retweeting that he's been offered by UP, Marquette, Memphis, Virginia Tech, Illinois, Sam Houston State, Auburn, and Nebraska.

Yeah, the video is kind of long for such a thing, but it's obvious the Pilots were recruiting a personable, bright, and articulate young man who respects his parents.....
Congratulations to Jordan Poole and Michigan.

From nine days ago...
2017 PG from Parkrose HS in NE Portland.
"Isaac is unquestionably the top 2017 player in Oregon, holding Division 1 offers from Portland, Portland State, Idaho, Montana State and Northern Arizona," says the guy who runs the Primetime Top 40 Showcase.

Re: 2017 Recruiting
This is very interesting - especially with a local player involved. And if I recall correctly former Pilot Kory Thielke has been working/interning the past 2 years at Parkrose HS with at-risk youth. I bet Korey had something to do with UP's interest in Isaac.

Re: 2017 Recruiting
The best overall shooter at the event was Nolan Bertain, a 6-foot-3 junior (2017) from Beaverton (Ore.) High School. Bertain hit approximately 75 percent of his shots from 3-point land with a quick square up and nice release point to boot. Every time the ball left Bertain’s fingertips, it looked good. He has to continue to work on shooting off the dribble, but his feel for getting to the open spot is excellent. Bertain also showed he’s no slouch on the other end.
“I wanted to come out here and show I could compete with these guys,” Bertain said. “I wanted to show I’ve been working on my defense this summer. I feel I’ve improved quite a bit defensively and did a good job on defense today.”
Bertain reports he’s been hearing from Portland, Air Force, Boise State and Gonzaga and with continued development, will be an excellent mid-major shooting guard recruit.

A recap of the Primetime Top 40 had the above blurb in it, as well as a nugget about the new signing Joseph Smoyer.

Re: 2017 Recruiting
Like Jazz, Isaac is a point guard who can score. With Jazz and Isaac sharing the load upon Alec's graduation in 2017, UP should continue to be in good hands. The early signing period begins in November.
There may have been another time when UP had two point guards from Portland, but I don't know when.

Re: 2017 Recruiting
Feels like Alec just got here so it's weird to be talking about his replacement already!
Obviously don't know much about him besides the article that DD posted. I see he's 6-2, though - so that will be a much different look than Wintering and Jazz, and Douglas and Campbell before them.

I hope that the size of this young man will contribute to defense at the point. Looks like a good get for Reveno, who is recruiting well.

Re: 2017 Recruiting
They do go through quickly, don't they. I always appreciate how hard our coaches work at recruiting, as far as I can tell from a distance. Nice that they don't have to fly across an ocean to visit this young man.

Re: 2017 Recruiting
Welcome Isaac! I mentioned back in October when UP's interest in Isaac first surfaced that I wouldn't be surprised if Kory Thielke, who has been interning at Parkrose HS the past 2 years as a life mentor for at-risk youth, was the person who alerted the coaches to Isaac. I'm thinking I'm right so way to go Kory!

Congrats on your prediction. Let's hope the commitment sticks because we are a long way from signing day. If Reveno left, an many suggest he should, we could lose a pretty good player, poy in his league last year. Wintering gets to show case his talents in the interim.

Re: 2017 Recruiting
Has anyone seen anything about this player?
Secondly, can former coaches comment on prospective players without violating NCAA rules?

Re: 2017 Recruiting
Um, yeah....that is the young man Terry Cahill commented on at 7:44 yesterday morning.....and he is the student-athlete, along with Bonton, that is rethinking his verbal commitment to Rev and UP.
Finally, according to Rev, it is not a problem for former coaches to comment about a kid before he actually signs a LOI....although by doing so I think he was both showing his pride in recruiting, but also his frustration in not being the guy who will coach him.....depending upon where Rev and Maluach will be in 2017.
IMO, if Chier returns to UP, there is a better chance Maluach will come to UP too....otherwise there's a good chance he'll want to go wherever Rev goes.

"Honestly, I just havent felt the same about it and I never looked at other options, so I just decided that I'd at least look around and find my most fitting college to attend which could still very well be UW," Davis told Scout.
At this point, Davis doesn't have a list of schools he would like to hear from.
"No I just wanna play my game and see who comes," he said.
