We also talked about U of Pacific. They’ve got to get their financial house in order a bit more before some will feel totally comfortable with their admission to the WCC.
So they might not be in? Or are we just talking comfort?

We didn't get into the politics, but I expressed my disappointment about missing the opportunity to pick up Seattle U.....I got nods of "likewise."

They do, and it stays quite active....but haven't seen much beach (sand) wear lately....certainly no bikinis at UP....not since the '60's I'm told.pilotram wrote:They still have a court at Shipstad, right?

Well, there goes the Philly TV audience.
U of Pacific Tigers just upset Xavier in the first round of the Direct TV Classic in Anaheim, 70-67.

The cascade of teams continues.
This time it's Louisville to the ACC.

Re: Big 14
U Conn, and Cincinnati passed over….Louisville to the ACC.
Sounds right to me; in my mind anything that smells of U Conn and Cincinnati should be avoided….but I’m sure the smell of their money has an allure (for some).

Re: Big 14
I dunno, Cincy and UCONN would fit right in with the ethics at ACC anchors FSU and UNC, wouldn't they?
They are probably in the same violation reeducation class.

You are correct! UNC has cheated in football and basketball and must now pay the price.PurpleGeezer wrote:I dunno, Cincy and UCONN would fit right in with the ethics at ACC anchors FSU and UNC, wouldn't they?

I've always considered the ACC schools, including UNC, to be far superior in academics to U Conn or Cincy....however, it could be the times are a changing.
I've lived in North and South Carolina during my Air Force career, and can vouch for the over zealous nature of alums and other backers with $$$$$ in the ACC area. "Aw shucks, that's the way my daddy done it!"

Re: Big 14
Maybe UNC always looked so good because grad students were taking the tests for the football and basketball players.

Re: Big 14
Also, Tulane and East Carolina are joining the Big East as Louisville departs.
Other potential Big East members are listed here.

Re: Big 14
Just curious as to what everyone thinks about this constant conference realignment. Thoughts? I just learned that Chicago State is moving to the WAC and that a D-II school, Grand Canyon (a for-profit, Christian school in Phoenix) is moving up to D-I to join the WAC as well. Something makes me want to say that I thought the NCAA said no more moving up to D-I for any more schools for a little while.

The moratorium on moving to D1 got lifted a while ago ( at about the time Seattle started the process)
<edit> June 2011 was the official end of the moratorium
The list of schools currently in the middle of migrating to D1 is here:

The WAC is trying desperately to retain its automatic bid status for postseason play. You need at least 8 teams in your conference to keep it.
