UP v. Michigan Empty UP v. Michigan

Post by Geezaldinho Sat Nov 10, 2012 5:33 pm

Ok, they are our next opponent. I know almost nothing about them except their best win was, well, today, beating (30) Central Michigan. Their next best win was twice over (42) Wisconsin.

Considering their coach, I expect a rough defense and very direct game, but that's a guess. Anybody actually watch them play?

Chris Henderson sees Michigan in a similar fashion in his preview of today's game. http://www.allwhitekit.com/?p=10911

Penn St has their game with BC scheduled for 7:30 pm ET. I assume our game will be around 4pm ET this Friday.

The game Friday is listed as 5pm ET so 2 pm here. Does anyone know if it will be streamed or televised? Also it looks like Cal State Northridge was our only common opponent. They lost to them, we tied.

Does anyone have insight into this team besides that they look very physical?

I'd say that's about on the level of Bigfoot doing an interview.

The PSU site doesn't even show a video feed for their game.

If we are really lucky, we might get an audio feed if UP sends Adam or somebody out there.

There will in fact be a live video feed! No details to share other than I've heard it on good authority.

A watch-party is being scheduled for on campus... just waiting to book a venue.

I hope the video feed is better than the one they had for the match versus LIU on Saturday. It was very fuzzy and all from long distance. No zoom and only one camera. There was no audio. Shocked

I am spoiled by the Portland Video feeds!

I could not even tell which team was which until I saw one team (Penn State) start to dominate possession and shots.
Please let it be a better video feed... Exclamation

Yes, I hope there is a better video feed.......

Today from the UP Athletic Office:
NCAA Soccer Watch Party to be hosted on Portland Campus

The University of Portland will host an on-campus watch party at the Bauccio Commons for Friday’s 2 p.m. (PT) NCAA Women’s Soccer second round match against the Michigan Wolverines in State College, Pa. The watch party is open to the public and free of charge. The video will be provided courtesy of Penn State University Athletics.
The women’s soccer team is in the midst of another NCAA Championship run after a thrilling first round match against the Washington State Cougars at Merlo Field last Friday. After playing to a 2-2 tie through regulation and two overtime periods, Pilots goalkeeper Erin Dees came up with three season-saving stops as Portland advanced 6-5 in a penalty kick shootout.

Portland is one of three teams in the nation to have won multiple NCAA Championships, bringing home the trophy for the first time in 2002 and then again in 2005. The Pilots are making their 13th straight playoff appearance, and 20th overall, and now have advanced past the first round all 13 times.

Friday’s winner will advance to play the Penn State-Boston College winner on Sunday at 4 p.m. If Portland is to advance, the University will host another watch party that afternoon at the Bauccio Commons.

TRIVIA ALERT: After looking at the Michigan website I was curious how many students they have at UM.

It turns out they are smaller than BYU (27,852), but bigger than UP (3,209)! Michigan has an enrollment of 26,096, the 18th largest in D-1 athletics. (Don't get too hung up on the numbers...I used a basketball site that lists 2011 numbers).

UP ranks 299th in size in D-1.....guess who #1 is.

I was quite surprised, as I lived in Tempe for five years back in the '70's, it's ASU with 46,894 students.

Yup; Ohio State is #2 with 38,300. And yes, I used the same reference that PPT referred to.

Since the watch party takes place on a weekday, would I need a visitor parking pass for that if I park on campus?

You make a good point, tamservo. I too was ticketed when I parked near Merlo Field to buy my season tickets a couple of years ago.

I just gave the ticket to the Athletic Director and never heard any more about it.

Curious....did you pay the fine? And if so, to whom?

I called UP Public Safety.....they said, "yes, you need a parking permit....you can pick it up at the Pilot House or at Public Safety."

I've gotta say though, I've been to a lot of meetings and have watched at lot of practices at UP over the years, and have NEVER picked up a permit.....so, I guess it's the law, but I'm not sure how strictly it's enforced.

If you do get a ticket, just give it to Stoney.....I'm sure it would the subject of a great video. clown

Just park on the streets by Chiles, the baseball stadium, and around public safety. Those streets are not technically UP property (they are City of Portland property) and they cannot do a darn thing about you parking there. Otherwise, those visitor passes from the Pilot House and P-Safe are free and simple to get. Your call. P-Safe likes to believe that they are VERY IMPORTANT and they love to ticket people. How else would they make money?

I think I was picking up tickets and then was in the bookstore for about 20 minutes. I did pay it - to the university, using the official citation envelope. I didn't know anyone to give it to and didn't feel like arguing about it... in my head I just thought of it as a charitable contribution and moved on (though obviously did not forget...).

If I get another one, I'll be sure to locate this Stoney character and pass it on to him. Wink
