Re: pilots playing summer ball
Thanks for the updates! Great to see Varce pitching so well, and the Corvallis Knights are legit good (ranked #4 in the college wood bat conglomerate rankings), so for Kyle and Rocky to be playing that well really means something.
Wanted to add a few more names... Kyle Haskin is hitting .271 for the Stars in the WCL Portland league. Tommy Renda has pitched seven scoreless innings for the Ports. Ben Pressler hasn't pitched much but hasn't given up one run in 3 innings for the Dukes. And Austin Pearce is hitting (gulp) .079 for the Ports.
I've been at every game at Pilot Stadium for the summer league... games are at 6 MWF and 1 on Sundays. You can see stats/schedules here:

Imagine, if you will, me with my lips pulled tight, snarling "Geezer!" just like Jerry would say "Newman!" and you'll have it about right.
At the risk of sounding like a Sooby Doo/Captain Planet bad guy... you'll pay for this Geezer!

I would love to watch the two guys in the Northwoods league play. We have a team here in La Crosse, maybe they still have games against Green Bay. I have been here three weeks and not made it out to a game...very disspaointed in myself.

There was a time when the Northwoods League was trying to become one of the nation’s premier summer leagues. But now the league attracts some of the best college talent and has reached many of its goals.
Several players from around the country have reached their goals this summer.
Portland pitcher Zach Varce put together an impressive spring campaign for the Pilots and also is having a fabulous summer with more than 90 strikeouts.
At the plate, N.C. State’s Harold Riggins and UNLV’s Rance Roundy have risen to the occasion. St. Mary’s sophomore Troy Channing is having a huge summer from a power standpoint. Western Michigan’s Chris Lewis also is having a huge summer.
It’s time to take an inside look at some of the Northwoods League’s shining stars.
