Cross Country Sweeps WCC Titles... Again! Empty Cross Country Sweeps WCC Titles... Again!

Post by Stonehouse Mon Nov 03, 2008 11:34 am

Forgot to post this earlier this weekend:

http://wccsports.cstv.com/sports/c-xc/spec-rel/110108aaa.html

The men won their 30th (!) straight WCC title, which according to the WCC: "Portland's 30 consecutive cross country titles in one league marks the longest streak in the nation."

Meanwhile, the women picked up something like their 12 title in 13 years... couldn't find the exact stat.

Congrats Pilots!!! Go get 'em at Regionals!

Sleep Razz
I kid. And to think (at least what I've heard) that Coach Conner rests some of his top runners rather than send them to the WCC meet.

Nice job Pilots!!!

Oh yeah... normally it's always the 'B' team that races at the WCC meet.

This year David Kinsella and Colin Longmuir (two top seven guys) ran because they are still recovering from injuries and Coach Conner wanted to have them run a race before regionals.

good thing they did, it was a little close, the closest ever it said. And why aren't they given Coach Conner any props for coach of the year, shame,

For what it's worth, Arkansas' cross country conference streak ended Monday after 34 years, which means that UP's cross country team currently has the longest active streak of conference championships in the NCAA...IN ANY SPORT!

AWESOME ! ! ! !

Congrats to Coach Conner and the team.

One of these years, I would love to see UP run the 'A' team at the WCC championships to blow everyone else out of the water (even more so than usual)...! Wink

GO PILOTS!

Yes, in 1993. Since the regional system was first implemented in 1982, only four teams have won the West Region - Stanford (10)Arizona (8 ), Oregon (6), and us (1).
