U20 camps
US Soccer just announced the first camp for the U20 WC, which will be held from Sep. 21-28th: http://www.ussoccer.com/articles/viewArticle.jsp_9928710.html
Curiously, captain Keelin Winters isn't listed. Does this mean I'll get to see her at Rutgers and Penn State?
GOALKEEPERS (4): Bianca Henninger (Santa Clara), Chantel Jones (Virginia), Alyssa Naeher (Penn State), Cat Parkhill (Minnesota)
DEFENDERS (5): Kaley Fountain (Wake Forest), Lauren Fowlkes (Notre Dame), Liz Harkin (Arizona State), Nikki Marshall (Colorado), Elli Reed (Portland)
MIDFIELDERS (4): Becky Edwards (Florida State), Meghan Klingenberg (North Carolina), Christine Nairn (Maryland), Ingrid Wells (Georgetown)
FORWARDS (: Kiersten Dallstream (Washington State), Gina DiMartino (Boston College), Michelle Enyeart (Portland), Sydney Leroux (UCLA), Alyssa Mautz (Texas A&M), Jessica McDonald (Glendale, Ariz.), Alex Morgan (California), Nikki Washington (North Carolina)

Re: U20 camps
Huh.... It would appear that way.... But I find it odd that they have 8 forwards listed and only 4 mids.... curious....

Re: U20 camps
A couple of those "forwards" play midfield as well.
It looks to me like Tony is still trying to sort out the forwards and Keppers.
Here's a breakdown of players as compared to the Graham Hays list Dicicco said would comprise the core of the team
New to list.
GOALKEEPERS :
Bianca Henninger (Santa Clara),
Cat Parkhill (Minnesota)
DEFENDERS :
(none)
MIDFIELDERS :
Meghan Klingenberg (North Carolina), (though we expected her)
Ingrid Wells (Georgetown)
FORWARDS :
Jessica McDonald (Glendale, Ariz.),
Nikki Washington (North Carolina)
Not on list :
Keelin Winters Portland
Becky Edwards Florida State
Brittney MacDonald Miami
So- it looks like we will get Keelin for the East Coast swing, But it looks like we lose the others for 2 games this month instead of the 1 game we anticipated, including the Rutgers and Penn State games.

Re: U20 camps
Anyone have a speculation as to why Keelin was left off the roster this time around? A favor to UP? Better players available at that position (not likely at all), Tony D. still wanting to look at other players?

Re: U20 camps
My take is that he wants to see players at other positions. I think The keeper position isn't what he wanted so far, so he's taking a look at all four candidates at once. The same at forward. with Ohara and Noquiera dropped, He wants to be able to see how candidates play together.
He had to leave someone home, so I guess it was a bit of a favor to Garrett, who has been fully supportive of the National team effort.

Re: U20 camps
The second camp will be October 19-26, which covers the Pepperdine, St Mary's, and San Francisco games. For those games, we will be missing whichever of the three players -- most likely all three? -- make the final U-20 team roster. Fortunately, we will have them back for Santa Clara and San Diego.
It looks very likely we will see our strongest lineup on Friday.

Our strongest line up?
And what is our strongest line up?
Davis; Tsao, Olivier, Nicholson or McCluskie, Reed; Burk, Winters, Rapinoe, Enyeart: Schmidt, Foxhoven.
I admit that having an either/or in one position is a cop out. It may be moot if Korie's hurt.

Re: U20 camps
I agree with your strongest line up, Martin.
And I think it could be either Nicholson or McCluskie with Olivier. Either one would be a solid pick.
Not a cop out. We don't have a crystal ball to know what Garrett is thinking. And either choice is a good one.

Re: U20 camps
According to SoccerAmerica, Elli and Michelle (and the other U-20 camp players) will be available for the Sunday games, which means Penn State for us. The only games players will miss will be the games from Monday through Saturday. This fits with earlier suggestions our players will not miss games against ranked teams.
This suggests to me that our players also may not miss the Pepperdine and San Francisco games, since they also are on Sundays.

Re: U20 camps
NICE!!! I'm sure US Soccer made every concession possible so they wouldn't totally cripple teams. And hey even though we need to gear up for the post season, I'll take the 3 Amigos any time we can get em

Re: U20 camps
Looks like he is not considering Kristen Olsen she was not there before and not in the latest camp. Perhaps our goal against her had something to do with that? Bianca Henninger is playing behind Megan McCray at Santa Clara but maybe not for long after the 5-0 loss against North Carolina. Don't know much about Cat Parkhill other than she has a cool GK's name. I expect in the end it will be Jaimel Johnson starting as I have seen her play and she is the second best GK playing in Div I right now.
Although we may be getting a reprieve for Keelin for the camps I still believe she will be gone for the event in Chile during tournament time. As for Ellie and Michelle he might very well be re-evaluating them to play different positions.

Jaimel Johnson is legit. Even though UP really took it to Tennessee last year in the playoffs (4-0 was the final, right?), Johnson single-handedly prevented it from being something like 8-0 or 9-0. She made some spectacular saves.

Re: U20 camps
It appears that One of the last slots on the u20 team went tho Cat Parkhill, a redshirting Minnesota Golden Gopher.
gophersports,com.
that should leave only one slot unaccounted for, unless injuries or a change of mind on coach Diccico's part occurs.
There is apparently still a search on for another forward, judging by the emphasis at that position at the last camp.

Thanks for the reality check. I won't have to worry about them until playoff time.

Re: U20 camps
Ohara also got cut from the u20's by Tony at the same time as Noquiera.
BigSoccer posters attributed it to "not fitting in with the team".
Noyola was called back on to the team at that time.

stoney, i agree with you wholeheartedly an mentioned it in this forumn at that time. she was amazing!! an while the game could be viewed as lopsided, if it wasn't for the vol's keeper, it would have been a beat down.

Re: U20 camps
We actually got 3 past Jamiel vs. Tennessee:
Pilots archives: "UP outshot the Lady Vols by a 28-8 margin, including a 16-3 edge in shots on goal. If not for the brilliant play of UT goalkeeper Jaimel Johnson, who recorded 12 saves, the margin would have been much wider."

Re: U20 camps
I have seen O'Hara and Noguiera play. O'Hara is very very fast and Noguiera is very crafty with the ball. I would't mind if they were elsewhere employed during the playoffs but I guess if you want to be able to say our Pilots are the best, they need to beat the best.

Re: U20 camps
Remember that Noguiera scored the only goal when Tarheels beat Pilots in 2006. She can play.
