Interesting tidbit

I was flipping through the recently adopted University strategic plan for 2011-2016 (yes, I am a nerd)... and I happened across an interesting line item in the "Goals Strategies & Tasks" section. (Link to Plan). On page 13, line item 2.1.3, the following task is noted:

"2.1.3 Develop a program of national excellence in men’s basketball similar to women’s soccer". This target is defined as "Consistent top two finish in WCC and consistent participation in post-season tournaments" and "Maintain NCAA standards for academics". The timeline is stated as "2016".

This is pretty exciting, to specifically put this into the Strategic Plan... we all knew that there has been a noticeable push for the MBX program in recent years, but this is the first time I have seen it defined, and I like the target being a consistent top-two finish... This is not just a casual task, as this plan "has teeth" and comes from the highest levels in the University... so, there is no doubt that the emphasis on growing the program will continue!

Did you notice the $2 million improvements to Chiles? I did.

I saw that $2MM figure, too... I don't know what that includes. I have to think that locker room & training facility improvements are on the list, and that figure could include the recent lighting and scoreboard & video board upgrades...?

I don't know, but I heard a rumor that they wanted to move all of the concessions and things of that nature upstairs, to make the upstairs of Chiles more glamorous and useful. That way, when people come in they are directed upstairs instead of straight into the arena bowl itself. RUMORS, though...
