BYU in the WCC

I believe that is a replay. The game was played Saturday night at Rio Tinto stadium in Salt Lake.

So, since Boise State is staying the MWC and it looks like San Diego State might want to stay as well, where do you all think that BYU stands on its conference situation now? If you go over to their message boards, you will find mix reactions to the WCC and the MWC potential.

If the Mountain West can get San Diego State back, it will be one of the better basketball conferences in the country. UNLV, SDSU, New Mexico, Colorado State, Wyoming... Hard to understand why BYU wouldn't want to be part of that.

TV markets.

They have their own TV network.

Glad we gave up our MXC championship streak to a team that will only be here a couple years.

Certainly a better"fit" for BYU, IMO, but it would appear it's all about $$$ for the majority of NCAA institutions. And really, who can blame them, I guess.

So I guess stabbing your conference in the back, then trying to go as an indy in football out of pride was a bad idea.

I'm not sure being an indi was out of pride. I think gobs of money was involved. I suspect any reentry into the MWC comes with assurances that the BYU channel will make money and make the $200 million dollar investment in the TV production facility pay off.

Yea. I think Boise Trucker Community College got rights to their home games or something. Everyone in the MWC is supposed to get a deal like that now. Not sure exactly how it works but wouldn't be surprised to see BYU get the same offer.

Spoke with a "highly placed" WCC official today....and although he was totally non-committal as you would expect him to be, he did say there were a couple of schools the WCC was "keeping and eye on" in case there is a need for a conference realignment.

“Nothing imminent” as far as he knew!

San Diego State will remain a member of the Mountain West Conference and will not join the Big East this fall…no mention of BYU.

BYU was desperate to get into the Big 12, which was exploring potential expansion candidates. Today's news is that the Big 12 couldn't agree on any expansion candidates and is staying at 10 members. So BYU is stuck with the WCC.

As long as Texas wants a hold on the Big12 through the Longhorn network and BYU wants their network, that marriage will never happen.
