In addition to also recommending separate Cups, the men are instituting other changes
Men’s committee actions

The Division I Men’s Soccer Committee, meeting the same time as the women’s committee, clarified requirements regarding officials who work NCAA tournament matches.

Committee members decided that to be selected for any NCAA postseason game, officials must have worked at least six NCAA soccer matches during the regular season. The committee will review these games in addition to an official’s entire body of work (such as Major League Soccer contests, and experience with the U.S. Soccer Federation and FIFA).

The committee also will deploy a standard officiating crew of four officials during the semifinals and final of the Men’s College Cup. In the past, all six officials had a role during each game, with two officials assigned to each bench.

“The committee believes that these two officials need to be prepared for the second semifinal,” committee chair Diffley said. “Also, the committee will recommend bringing seven officials to the Men’s College Cup that will provide a blend of experience in the positions of center referee and assistant referee.”

The committee also clarified policies for the 2011 tournament and beyond regarding coaches, players or other bench personnel who must sit out the next tournament game due to a (by red card or otherwise). Committee members voted not to allow those individuals to be on the team bench or the field at any time (they may join the team in the locker room during postgame, however).

Further, a coach, player, or other bench personnel removed from a game shall be escorted from the playing field to a predetermined location away from the spectator area and field of play that is not in view of the game (such as the locker room or team bus).

In both instances, the offending individual is prohibited from any communication or contact with the team, coaches, and bench personnel from the start of the pregame warm-up to its completion, including all overtime periods and penalty kicks.

In other action, the men’s committee:

Recommended an increase in the squad size from 21 to 24 and an increase to the official travel party from 27 to 30 (the women’s committee is making the same recommendation).
Considered various adjustments to the Rating Percentage Index to balance bonus and penalty structures. Members agreed to not make substantial changes to the RPI for 2011; however, they are encouraging teams to play on the road more and are exploring a reduction in penalties imposed to teams.
Made sportsmanship a point of emphasis for 2011 and beyond. Also agreed that coaches should cordially greet officials before the start of the match but not carry on additional conversation with officials at that time or during half time and after the match (to avoid the perception of impropriety).
Appointed Al Albert, the associate athletics director of development at William and Mary, to succeed Diffley as committee chair for 2011-12.

Here's a rule change with real impact. The International Football Associations Board (IFAB) just concluded a meeting yesterday. They decide on the changes to the FIFA Laws. Here's hoping the NCAA picks up on this one.

Forget bringing in video replay. This is a real game changer, more so than the backpass rule or the even with the second last defender = onside change.

Starting next season, players will not be allowed to wear snoods. oh my Rules

I wish I could say the same...

Hahaha my HS coach growing up (a former Irish international) wouldn't let us wear warmup pants gloves or hats, unless we were on the bench. I'm pretty sure a snood would have earned the entire team 2 sets of progressions at the very least...

Hmmmm.... Looking at Wikipedia...maybe this is the reason:

The International Football Association Board feels that snood scarves may pose a risk to a player's neck if jerked from behind.[6] Players in the UK will be banned from wearing them during matches from 1 July 2011.
The International Football Association Board had a meeting where this issue was brought up, and they were immediately and totally banned on the 5th of March, 2011 due to not being part of the uniform.[7]
[edit]

Wouldn't incidentally grabbing someone's mullet while scrapping for the ball and giving them whiplash do basically the same thing? I'm not sure if getting rid of snoods really brings down the risk of neck injuries too much... Only refs can do that by making the right calls.

I know that Coach Irwin does not let any of his players wear any gloves or hats either, seems like the IFAB is going back to the old school

I've noticed lots of little things about the teams:

Everyone warms up in the same kit (all in t-shirts or all in long sleeves, and always in shorts, no sweatpants)

Everyone wears just the short-sleeve uniform shirt, or everyone wears a long-sleeve undershirt with the short-sleeve shirt.

Everyone keeps his/her shirt tucked in.

Everyone keeps his/her socks pulled up.

Like you said, nobody wears gloves.

I like it. It gives the Pilots a very professional look.

Also, for the record, put me in the "Loves the all-white kit" column. Speaking generally, some soccer fans like all white, some don't.

You forgot polished shoes. They all polish them, though I have no idea where Kassi gets orange polish....

Haha, those are synthetic leather shoes, not like the old leather, no polish necessary, just some vasoline to shine them up.
I've heard of one or two players getting blasted by the coaching staff for not having their socks up/having their sliding shorts too long, etc. so the professionalism of the program in the player's appearances is obviously very important!

Hahaha clear mink oil! When I was in HS they really started coming out with the multi colored boots (I rocked a pair of red Diadora Brasils, loved those shoes), that was always the challenge keeping those off colors looking sharp, but the clear mink oil kept the leather soft, somewhat waterproof and prevented the dreaded toe blowout...

That said, with all those years growing up keeping my copas and kings looking snappy, it makes shining up your dress shoes second nature! (although I'm not sure how that works with a lot of the newer shoes that aren't even real leather...)

Side note: LOVE the all white look! (My HS team rocked the all whites for home one year, it looked pretty fresh... But I think the moms doing the laundry put the kibosh on that one.) I just hate that the LA Galaxy has that look on lock down, I would love that as a third kit option for my rave green boys...
