Portland v. Kentucky

Post by blacksheep on Mon Nov 15, 2010 11:35 am

I don't put a lot of stock in the RPI predictors, especially this early in the season, but RealTime's prediction of the game this Friday is interesting. Kentucky 73 Portland 70. http://realtimerpi.com/ncaab/411_Men.html

I would absolutely love to see the Pilots in play a close game with Kentucky. Maybe we can even win it on a Stohl 3 pointer as the buzzer goes off. cheers

I noticed that too. They also have Kentucky going undefeated...

I wouldn't get too excited. They also have us losing to Portland State by 5, though I would trade that for splitting with the Zags.

I would too, but can we trade another game. I sure would like to see us beat PSU one of these years.

42.2 percent chance to beat Kentucky. I like those chances!

I'm really excited for the game on Friday and I hope both students and other fans come out in force to make the place LOUD.

I don't expect Blazer-esque crowds but it would be nice to be louder than the Terrence Jones contingent.

Mostly I hope we are able to play competitive basketball and stick with Kentucky! I think we could beat em.

Yeah, it's way, way to early to put any stock in RPI.

I think we can have a glass half full approach though. If we lose, it will still positively affect our RPI/strength of schedule. If we win, it's the biggest upset our program has had that I can remember. I'm much more optimistic than I was before the last 3 games. Some might disagree, but, I think this years' team has the potential to be deeper than last years' team...especially at point guard. When TJ went to the bench last year, there often seemed to be a drop off at least offensively. Now Waterford and Douglas are almost interchangeable, and when one goes in for the other it's just a flawless transition...

I think we should cancel all talk about RPI. Another Pilot team recently learned that a good RPI is worthless if you don't win the games. Shocked

Love the comments at the end of that article! I think some old coodger UK fan just compared Stohl to Pistol Pete (although in a backhanded kind of a way)

Pistol Pete joined an LSU team that was 3-20, Jared doesn't have to be that good.

The best thing that could happen to UP is if Kentucky decided to double him.

I think it's premature to compare Stohl to Pistol Pete, but, at his best, he does sometimes remind me of Steve Kerr a bit...

I agree that doubling Stohl would be a big mistake. Their long armed defenders have the ability to guard our guys one on one, and I think if they play us straight up it will be tough. But, if they double Stohl and dare guys like Tanner and Mitrovic to beat them, that will be a mistake.

In my opinion, Friday's result is not as important as Saturdays against Idaho. Idaho pretty much put the nail in the coffin to our slim at large bid hopes last year after we lost to Portland State and Idaho following the great 76 classic run of 2009. Hopefully we can play a competitive game Friday and blow out Idaho no matter the result of Friday's game.
I for one will be staying up late way out here in the eastern time zone drinking my PBR, and bringing out the jersey for the first time this season. Can't wait.
