PILOTS WIN!!!!!!!!!!

Post by Stonehouse on Fri Nov 09, 2007 8:02 pm

Looks like a rough game so far... two yellow cards for each team. USD has outshot the Pilots 10-3. Guerrero has six saves. Looks like Irwin had a shot that hit the post too.

Anyway, this game just got even BIGGER because he Zags lost at LMU. The winner of this game will have sole possession of second place, and may even gain ground on Santa Clara. They are down 1-0 to USF at the moment.

Go Pilots!!!

Santa Clara went from 0-1 to 2-1 before the half.

Pilots Win 1-0 on OT!!! Last minute of the second OT,

take sole possession of second place in the conference!!

Goal by Michel Gavin!! (I think on a shot off a set piece, but it's hard to tell from the SD announcers.)

Guerrero stopped everything to keep UP in it, and we kept countering 'till it payed off.
Its been a long road back, But it looks like we have 2 good soccer programs again.

I really like the way this team keeps digging and passing. Lots of good chances all game.

We still need a bit of help to catch Santa Clara. Somebody needs to at least tie them.

Hey Stoney--you can change the title of this thread now...

Gametracker says Gavin's goal was a 35 yarder, and the B-ball announcers are calling it a blast.

Sure wish we coulda seen it.

WOW! Big win!

Coupled with LMU beating Gonzaga, the Pilots take over sole possession of 2nd place! Huge! Unfortunately SCU came from behind to beat USF 2-1.

So the updated standings are as follows:
SCU 7-0-2 23 pts
UP 5-1-4 19 pts
USD 5-3-1 16 pts
GU 4-2-4 16 pts
SMC 2-5-2 8 pts
USF 2-7-1 7 pts
LMU 1-8-1 4 pts

We play at LMU Sunday, and then at home vs. SCU.... that would be huge if that is for the league title... SMC is at SCU Sunday--we really need that upset!

The WCC title and NCAA berth are still there for the taking!

GO PILOTS!

Getting a last minute win after holding off the USD attack for 109 minutes, is a great "morale" victory. The men's team has believed they could win close, crucial matches, now they know they can!
