Wow, wouldn't that be something!!pilotram wrote:Is it possible?
But would she even run in college? With so many national and international meets seeking her talents, college may just be a good way for her to train and get an education....but that would be okay too.
Cain probably has a ton of college offers, but if she wants to stay close to Coach Salazar, UP is the place!

Re: Mary Cain to UP??
This article is almost 6 months old....but still tells a nice story about an athlete that's just a "regular kid," and a coach that's sees tremendous potential.....

Re: Mary Cain to UP??
Yea that seems to be the attitude most folks have about her. So I kinda doubt she'll end up running in the NCAA. But who knows. Maybe she just wants a regular college kid experience?DoubleDipper wrote:

For those who don't know, Mary Cain is like the Lebron James of women's distance running. Or maybe Lebron is the Mary Cain of basketball.

Oh boy, that's going to encourage some to recall the many immature things Lebron has done.......pilotram wrote:For those who don't know, Mary Cain is like the Lebron James of women's distance running. Or maybe Lebron is the Mary Cain of basketball.
Pilotram only meant she's like Lebron TALENT wise, I'm sure....nothing else!!!

Why does this whole thread sound like the Marta thread?
I fully expect the next thing I read is how much she likes windsurfing and shopping downtown.

Looks like a tweet from the same instagrammer expressed some surprise at seeing Cain in the Commons. Makes me think her visit was not coordinated through the AD. Who knows.

Re: Mary Cain to UP??
I read last night that Mary Cain, the youngest athlete to represent Team USA in the World Track and Field Championships, has decided to become a professional athlete.
“For the past couple of months, my family and I have been debating whether I should compete at a collegiate or professional level going forward,” Cain said in a statement released by her agent, Ricky Simms of PACE Sports Management. “I have decided, and am truly excited to announce, that I will be turning pro. I believe that, in the long run, this is the best way for me to continue to develop as an athlete.”
Cain said she plans to finish the rest of the year in high school and would like to attend college in Portland, where she has applied to attend the University of Portland.

Great. I suppose LeBron will enroll next, since he never went to college. Coach Spo can give him an alumni's application coupon.

From what I've read, if Mary had competed at the college level she would have attended Oregon, not UP.pilotram wrote:This is a special kind of hurt.

Re: Mary Cain to UP??
It's official - She's a Pilot!
http://www.dyestat.com/gprofile.php?mgroup_id=44531&do=news&news_id=240440-Mary-Cain-race-schedule-update-2014-DyeStat
She's not going to run for the team, though. Just going to school and training with Alberto Salazar. Hate to say it, but she's making the right decision as she supposedly making a boat load of sponsorship money.

Good find. I agree, when you're already one of the best in the USA at 17, qualifying for world championships etc, no sense in bothering with the NCAA.

She probably can't pay a kid on the track team to do it, though, and she may not be able to give them a ride or give them a bagel with peanut butter.

Too many trips to the Commons or Pilot House?

Re: Mary Cain to UP??
The "returning home" narrative is kinda lame. Isn't that what most freshmen do after classes get out in the spring? Yes.

It could be just sour grapes on the part of some that are bring about these allegations, but it would seem there is far too much credible evidence to think Salazar, and a few of his runner, are not cheaters.

Another female professional runner, Alexa Efraimson, will begin classes as a freshman at UP this August.
