Forward Danielle Foxhoven and baseball pitcher Chris Dennis are the University of Portland's student-athletes of the year.
Soccer star Danielle Foxhoven and pitching standout Chris Dennis are the University of Portland's 2009-10 Fr. Chester Prusynski student-athletes of the year.
The annual award is based on academic and athletic prowess.
Dennis, a junior right-hander from Bothell, Wash., became the school’s career leader in saves (14) and was one of five finalists for the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Stopper of the Year award. In his first year with the Pilots after transferring from Edmonds Community College, he tied for third in the nation in saves and made the all-West Coast Conference team. He went 5-1 with a 1.88 ERA and .204 batting average against, striking out 51 batters in 43 innings.
Dennis is the first baseball player to take the honor since Ben Ortman in 1993.
