UCLA Takes Butler to the Brink Empty UCLA Takes Butler to the Brink

Post by Stonehouse Fri Nov 27, 2009 11:16 pm

Just FYI to those who didn't follow the UCLA/Butler game... UCLA hit a three with 9 seconds left to tie it and seemingly force OT, but then Butler hit two FTs with 1 second on the clock to win 69-67.

#10 Butler beats UCLA by 2.

Portland beats UCLA by 27.

I like it.

Bottom line is, I think I'll be clipping out a little section of the sports page on Monday to save for posterity, just to remember when it all started UCLA Takes Butler to the Brink Icon_cheers

So either we are better than #10 Butler or UCLA got a wake-up call courtesy of Rev and the Boys, and they're gonna play better. Seems like a win-win situation for the Pilots.

I think I have just turned into a UCLA/Minnesota fan for the rest of the season. Don't think I can ever support the Ducks though.

Amen, but, don't count on UCLA having a good year. At best, they'll finish 4th in the Pac-10 behind UW, Cal, and Arizona in my opinion. They've been picked as high as 3rd, but, I just can't see it. When you look at what Seattle U did after we beat them, it could be argued that win was our second most impressive of the season. They've done more to help our RPI than UCLA or the Ducks so far.

It's so nice to hear people talking about the WCC being stronger than the Pac-10 for a year. This won't happen often; we should enjoy it.

If UCLA finishes 4th in the Pac-10, that would be great for us. By all accounts, they were a completely different team against Butler last night. Which can happen with young teams. So we can definitely hold out hope that the Bruins will improve and gel and be rolling come conference time. Ben Howland is still Ben Howland... one of the best coaches in the country. We played terrific and caught them on an off night... and won by 27. Had they played well, I still think we would have handily beaten them, but it wouldn't have been basically over early in the 2nd half.

UCLA does have a ton of talent and is returning their top freshman recruit soon... that will only help. With any luck, this could turn into a solid win on our resume.

I think that knowing you're not as bad as the score the previous night was and wanting to prove it may have gone a long way to their win over Butler.

Man it would have been nice to see UCLA win that given the beating we put on them the night before.
