Lute Olsen Leaves Arizona... Mike Moser Comes to UP?

Post by Stonehouse on Fri Oct 24, 2008 8:44 am

Ha ha... only in my wildest dreams. But, I know that we did recruit Moser really hard, and it's possible he could leave Arizona now that Olsen is retiring. I don't know... just fun to think about, even though I know it's not going to happen.

For those who don't know, Mike Moser plays for Grant here in Portland... a 6'7" athletic small forward... super talented... exactly what the Pilots need... sigh. Smile

Sure why not!! I'll take Abdul Gaddy as well!! I'll take a 6'3" PG rated #2 in his class as well. Maybe I can talk to him and work something out...

I mean he could be the second Bellarmine Prep Alumnus in the Pilot HOF after my former Dean of Students Steve Anstett!! lol! (Well that is unless Megan Sweeney or Janelle Jacka beats Abdul to it....)

Steve Anstett used to come into my 1st Period Honors American Lit class my Jr year in HS and chuck Koosh balls at us to "warm us up" up before class... Then my real teacher would walk in, Anstett would say "Welp have fun with your nerds, I have to go teach some dumbasses" Classic!

And Cincinnatus!!!! BEST NAME EVER.... Rochin54 better put that in the hopper for first born child names...

Noted. It now stands in a five-way race with Melchisadek, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abedonego.

Now wait a minute!! I don't recall giving permission to anyone to use my long-held handle as the name for their first born. They can have the others but lay off Shadrach - it's taken!

It would be nice for Abdul Gaddy of Bellarmine Prep (who's also committed to Arizona) to change his mind and come to UP too...I can only dream.

Welp so much for Gaddy....

Although I'd be lying if I said his choice of schools really has me upset...

And Moser is still considering re-upping with UA??

UCLA Requires Defense... Mike Moser leaves UCLA....

Post by DaTruRochin on Mon Apr 05, 2010 9:08 pm

http://blog.oregonlive.com/pac10/2010/04/pac-10_basketball_former_grant.html

If a player isn't willing to play defense I hardly see Rev's system as a good one for them, but it will be interesting to see where Moser ends up... again...

Whoever wrote that article apparently hasn't read the Pac10 conference transfer rules. If he transfers to another school in the conference he'd essentially lose 2 years, that's even if he is granted a release by UCLA.

So the idea that he might transfer to a WCC school isn't so far fetched. Why not us?

No place for him this year. Can he self-fund a sit-out year and get a scholarship next year?

Here's the PAC10 rules.

If you intend to transfer to a Pac-10 school and have previously attended or
participated in practice at another Pac-10 school you may be subject to the
Pac-10 Intra-Conference Transfer Rule. This rule’s penalty requires that you
fulfill one academic year of residence and lose one season of competition
before being eligible to compete.
You also may not receive athletically related
financial aid during this period of ineligibility.
Depending upon whether or not you were recruited or received aid at the first Pac-10 school,
you may be exempt from the rule and its penalties. You are exempt from the application of
the rule if, at the first Pac-10 school, you were:
• Not recruited and did not receive athletics aid
• Not recruited and received institutional aid only
• Recruited but received no athletics or institutional aid
If you are not exempt, once you have either been admitted to, enrolled in, or practiced at
your second Pac-10 school the faculty representative can apply on your behalf for a reduction
of the rule’s penalty, including elimination of the ban on athletically related financial aid. A
reduction must be approved by at least eight of the Pac-10’s faculty representatives.

http://compliance.pac-10.org/thetools/4yrtrans.pdf

As I understand it, the NCAA rule also applies if he's not granted a full release. and the years are consecutive, not concurrent.
With Porter and Hegarty's slots available, don't we still have 1 more slot?

Five graduates plus two transfers. Four freshmen LOI's, two freshmen commits, and one JC transfer commit. I don't see an open spot.
