The site has UP ranked at #45, and Gonzaga at #53!

It's good to finally be getting some recognition for what Rev is building on The Bluff!

Gonzaga lost Josh Heytvelt, Jeremy Pargo, Micah Downs and Austin Daye. St. Mary's lost Patty Mills. Portland returns its starting lineup that is now made up of all juniors and seniors. The West Coast Conference is up for grabs, and the Portland Pilots are in the driver's seat.

It sure is great to be in the mix. This site has a very non-bcs approach to the ranking. This group also put LaSalle in at #48 with its senior and upperclassmen laden team. http://thehoopsreport.com/article.aspx?id=313
The target and fan expectations will certainly be on the team's proverbial back.

I'm not sure if I'd go so far as to say that we're "in the drivers seat," but, it's nice to get some respect all the same. It's a new year, and we have to meet our potential in a tougher schedule. The good news to me is that we'll get what we deserve in a tougher schedule. If we win, we'll earn our respect and won't be underappreciated next year.

How has this site's track record been in previous years? Just curious.

Hahaha, it's not quite time to go buying dancing shoes, but I'd say this at least lets us think about going window shopping

This is nice. With a capital "N". You guys know me I can't wait to hear some of the fallout coments from the cheapseats about how biased and inacurate this poll is.
As a gracious Pilot fan I will reserve rubbing it in.However, secretly I hope Stoney links the story to every WCC BB Fan Site, lol. Plus, I don't like eating my words after the season so I'm going to remain calm.
As has been mentioned, good for the program, good for the kid's confidence , good for Rev and staff. Just those three things make it a great day to be a Pilot BB Fan.

Re: Pilots rated higher than Zags!?
Love it! Even if I personally wouldn't put us ahead of the Zags (and I definitely wouldn't), just being in the conversation is awesome. People are noticing Portland, something that hasn't happened in....... well, 15 years I guess.
As for Portland/Gonzaga... the thing about the Zags is that they are a huge question mark. We know Bouldin is great and Gray is solid, but beyond that they are largely made up of guys who don't have a lot of experience or are freshmen. Could they be great if some of those guys (like Goodsen and Sacre) really step up? Absolutely. But they could also struggle if all their foreign kids don't adjust well right away and especially if they have some injuries down in the paint. So who knows? Still, I think by the time WCC play rolls around they will be very formidable, even if they have a rough go early on in the season.

Bingo. The Zags are a huge unknown... but if we are able to start winning some big games on the road, we will make some noise on our own... coverage like this only helps the recruiting process, etc. Getting our name out there "in the discussion" is huge.
