El Superclassico Empty El Superclassico

Post by Geezaldinho Sat Apr 18, 2009 4:15 pm

It's tomorrow - the twice a year clash between Boca Juniors and River Plate, which is THE game of the year in Argentina and is on several "things you must do before you die" lists.

The way to see it, of course, is in person. But you'll get some of the flavor of the event on TV. FSE tomorrow around !2:00 PM. Brush up on your Spanish. I'm willing to bet Andrés Cantor does the game.

This year it's at Boca's La Bonbonera (the chocolate box). It's a concrete stadium that the fans get swaying when they start jumping up and down.
Both teams will have injury and availability problems, but there will still be stars playing and giving it their all.

Nothin' like it.

El Superclassico Empty Kissing your sister

Post by Geezaldinho Mon Apr 20, 2009 6:43 pm

Well the game ended in a 1:1 TIE, Kissing your sister, I guess, but that doesn't mean t wasn't memorable.

there were some very good River tries, and Boca didn't disappoint the home crowd. efforts from the Boca side came from Palaccio, Palermo, and Riquelme, and Boca answered with great efforts from Bounannotte and Falcao. The goals came from Palermo and Falcao,

We don't see most of these guys in this country other than Riquelme, but all of them are world class players. there's a certain magic about what they and others on their teams can do that you don't really see in this country.

And of course, there is the atmosphere. I don't know the comparison-- maybe the Redskins - Cowboys of the 70's and 80's?

If you didn't see this game, you should make an effort to see the next superclásico.

Thanks for the update, PurpleGeezer. There's really no comparison to US sports...

Amazing highlights!

You picked a great video. The Arabic commentary was inspired! Smile

Not really... they have that up at the sounders game too, but you just kind of get used to kicking it out of the way... haha what you really have to worry about are the streamers and toilet paper...

It really only effects corner kicks, if anything
