Reflection - What are you thankful for?
I'm pretty sure the team will be having Thanksgiving together...somewhere in Palo Alto? Hopefully not at the hotel...but at someone's home who will graciously offer to host them.
A reflection...
1) I'm thankful for Garrett and his staff's work in coaching and managing and preparing the team through....a brutal schedule, Injuries, National Team Commitments and Integrating freshmen to say the least...is remarkable....considering we're 1 step away from the College Cup!
2) Great players - UP and its fans have been blessed to see some of the best players in the country do incredible things on the pitch. And outside..as students and ambassadors for the university...second to none! Great great bunch of people. Each one...very generous with their time.
Thanks for a Great Season...its NOT over yet....LET'S GO PILOTS!!! BEAT STANFORD!!!

Happy Thanksgiving to all! Thanks to everyone across Pilot Nation for creating, sharing and nurturing this forum that helps us pursue our love of Pilots soccer to the max. I'll be offline and beyond the reach of cell phone, Internet, e-mail or TV for the Stanford game, so must await the next day's Oregonian (delivered by canoe, no less) for the result. Go, Pilots!

Right on, GUPhantom!
I'm also thankful that there is another "football" game to froth over on Civil War weekend.

Happy Turkey Day to you, too, Purple Haze. You didn't mention shortwave radio...maybe that would work. Are you sure that there isn't an internet connection within reasonable paddling distance?

I will be at the game. Driving up after the Thanksgiving but I share PH sentiments about this forum and the people who post here. In the last year it has become a fixture in my life and I enjoy it very much. Thanks everyone and have a happy Turkey day (even if you are having beans in a can).

As an admin, I just want to say that I am thankful for all of you who found this board and made it what it is. Without you, there would be no board!

I am thankful that you all accept me for who I am. For the first time in my life I finally feel part of something.

I'm thankful I found a couple of Timbers supporters who let a Pilots fan hang out with them.

Re: Reflection - What are you thankful for?
I am very thankful I still awake in the morning, and with a little caffeine am able to read the Oregonian sports page first, then head to the computer and go to Pilot Nation, where I always read the previous nights post first 'cause I go to bed usually around 9:30pm.
Really, on Thanksgiving it's all about family for me. We sometimes watch an American football game for awhile, but the NFL doesn't really get exciting for me until we get down to the last few weeks of the regular season. Stuffing myself with turkey and the rest is often followed by a seat on the couch feeling paralized and needing rolaids. My eyes close off and on as I snooze for a few seconds, but the noise around me wakes me up and I do it all over again.
When we get home from my brother's house, my son will make a fireplace fire and I will sneak up to the computer and check PN for any holiday posters. Afterall, tomorrow night is the biggest match of the season. It's going to be a donnybrook, I believe.
Usually the Pilots coaches are pretty much hands off come game time. But I'm glad that Lauren had a long chat with the defensive back line and both center mids on the field after the JMU match. And also that Bill had a similiarly long talk with Kelsey after the match. I hope the coaches have been very spirited and emotional in this week's practices, as I believe this unit needs to be brought together and given orders to attack like an angry pit bull for the full 90 minutes of regulation.
I don't believe there is anything fundamentally wrong with this team. But because of circumstances beyond their control, (5 potential starters missing, all key players), this team is shorthanded both as a starting 11 and on the bench. Are we goners, then? I think not, but I believe the coaching staff must insert itself more deeply into the equation and find a way to lift this team to fight its deadliest fight. (Remember, it is "do or die!").
Everyone, have a wonderful Thanksgiving day.

I have no doubts about this team. Not even being down the players they are. They'll find a way to get it done. Period.

Re: Reflection - What are you thankful for?
Ran into the Rapinoes at the UP - PSU women's baskeball game at the Stott Center last night. They said they will be hitting the road today. Both seemed loose and rooted enthusiastically for the UP women in a losing cause. Nice to see them supporting the hoopsters.
Looking forward to watching the game and chatting with you all in the chatbox tomorrow evening
Happy Thanksgiving!
