Johnny Pesky had his number retired

Lincoln High School's Johnny Pesky had his Red Sox number 6 retired.
a .307 lifetime hitter, he played almost 70 years ago and showed up for the ceremony at age 89.
He's in pretty good company. The other five numbers retired by the team are Bobby Doerr (1), Joe Cronin (4), Carl Yastrzemski (8 ), Ted Williams (9) and Carlton Fisk (27).
The short right field foul pole at Fenway is known as the "Pesky Pole", allegedly because it's the only place he could hit out of the park, and it's where they put his number.
