Women's hoops freshman basketball player granted transfer

Women’s basketball recruit Kristina Koonce has requested and been granted a release from her commitment to UP. Koonce a freshmen, from Houston, Texas, will seek a transfer to another school. Koonce was one of two recruits signed by UP head coach Jim Sollars during the 2008 fall recruiting period from the Houston area.

Close sources tell me both Texas recruits was a little disappointed, like everyone else, when informed that Coach Yolette McPhee-McCuin was leaving. Not sure how much an impact McPhee-McCuin leaving for Pitt had to do with Koonce departure. Or maybe just a case of the old “no longer a good fit“……..
