Point Shaving at Toledo?

Post by Stonehouse on Thu Aug 07, 2008 9:40 am

Saw this on Deadspin this morning:

http://pregame.com/forums/blogs/rj-bell/archive/2008/08/06/toledo-basketball-point-shaving-behind-the-numbers.aspx?gn=382184

Kind of confusing, but worrisome none the less. It says that Vegas people think 5% of games with a point spread of 10+ are fixed, or at least have people trying to manipulate the final score. Don't know if I believe that, but I'm not naive enough to think that this kind of stuff doesn't happen a lot more than we realize.

But the part that really cracks me up is how it was written by RJ Bell of PreGame.com and not only did he quote himself in the article but he credited himself by name for scooping a story a few years ago. Um... I think this is exhibit A of why some journalists and newspaper people are gnashing their teeth at blogs. I mean... I only wrote for the Beacon, but I did learn that you're not supposed to quote yourself. Ha!

Stoney, delayed congrats on post number 1,000! You along with Geez and a select few others make this board what it is. Thanks.

Pilotnut will be mailing you the keys to the executive lounge. Pretty spiffy!

My favorite features are the wide screen plasma display and the free beer tap.

Well, us Admins just sneak in when you guys arent there. Which isnt very often, since Geezer seems to camp out next to the tap at all hours...

@ Stonehouse: +1 for reaching 1000 posts.

You look at the girly pictures and read the foul-mouthed posts on Deadspin??? I'm shocked! Shocked

Well, not really. That's where I'm headed next Laughing

Mr. Bell's article is why Buzz Bissinger disapproves of blogs.

Actually, it is okay to quote yourself in an article of you are the president of the "publication" AND you have been featured on both ESPN's First Take and the Wall Street Journal.

Way to go Stonehouse. I completely forgot about looking at post counts until I saw Geezer was already over 1100! So I checked yours and lo and behold it was at 1010.

That makes you a Point Guard now, right?

(Man, I feel real weird in this thread. It's real dim in here and the music's kinda loud...and what in tarnation is that awful smell? Is that what 1,000 posts does to you, Geezer and Stoney?)
